A kitten rescued from traffic by a Florida woman ended up taking an 80-mile ride in an Uber to an animal rescue facility. Kylie Gross said she was on her way to work in Hialeah, just outside of Miami, when she spotted a tiny kitten weaving through traffic. Gross, a nurse practitioner, said she was able to get the kitten into her car, but when she arrived at the clinic where she administers COVID-19 vaccines, the feline had vanished into the steering column. "When I got to work, I couldn't get her out of the car," Gross told WPBF-TV. "I...
  • Incoming Muslim Congresswomen Mock Pence’s Christian Faith

One of the first two Muslim women elected to the U.S. Congress took a snide dig on Twitter at Vice President Pence for sitting with eyes closed during a heated Oval Office meeting, posting a photo with the caption, “Jesus take the wheel!” — and the other incoming Muslim congresswoman applauded the insult. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) tweet ended with the hashtag #BorderWall, a reference to the contentious issue discussed during President Trump’s meeting Tuesday with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) The second Muslim woman elected to the House, Palestinian-American Congresswoman-elect Rashida Tlaib,...

I frequent a few websites where a thread will move to the top of the list of existing threads based on the most recent post. I know that "bttt" means "bump to the top" and I've seen this used a number of times on FR. But I've never observed, on FR, any thread change or move its position, no matter how recent a post in that thread has been. So why is "bttt" used by a poster if it doesn't change the position of the thread? Is there a setting I need to enable? Thanks.

Hispanic people in the United States live nearly three years longer than the population overall, say researchers who’ve released the first government study to confirm extended life expectancy in the nation’s largest minority group. At birth, Hispanics can expect to live 80.6 years; that's about 2.5 years longer than the non-Hispanic white population and about 7.7 years longer than blacks. Overall, the life expectancy for the total population was 77.7 years, according to 2006 data used in a report issued Wednesday by the National Center for Health Statistics. The longer lifespan is apparent despite well-documented health risks for Hispanics, including higher...

Too Big, Too Heavy by Jed Babbin, Human Events Posted: 03/24/2008 The mission of the US Air Force is to fly and to fight. Everyone in the Air Force’s job falls into one of three categories: to do the flying and fighting, to command those who do, or to support them. Part of supporting the warriors is to buy the best aircraft to accomplish the mission at lowest risk. Which is why the Air Force’s decision to buy urgently-needed tanker aircraft from the Northrop Grumman – EADS consortium must be reversed. That decision -- announced on February 29 -- could...
  • Top Seven Reasons Why Barack Obama is a Weaker Candidate Than People Think

John McCain is having a very tough time uniting conservatives and the political winds seem to be at the Democrats' backs; so many people seem to think that Barack Obama will win in a walk in November. However, that's probably not going to be the case. In a normal year, where the public was more closely divided between the Dems and the GOP, McCain would be capable of wiping out a candidate as weak as Obama in a landslide of Dukakis-esque proportions. With that in mind, even in a year like this, where Obama has a huge advantage, chances are...

Jim Webb's GI Bill passed the Senate today with a bipartisan majority, 75-22. Clinton and Obama were both there, but McCain is in California today on the fundraising trail. Obama used the opportunity to once again tie his rival to the president. "I respect Sen. John McCain's service to our country," Obama said on the Senate floor this morning. "He is one of those heroes of which I speak. But I can't understand why he would line up behind the president in opposition to this GI Bill. I can't believe why he believes it is too generous to our veterans....

Since the story broke yesterday about finding 500 Shells of Chemical Weapons in Iraq, shells that contain Sulfur Mustard Gas or Sarin Gas, the Left and their media were quick to dismiss this extremely important find by using the lame excuse that these Chemical weapons Shells were produced before 1991 and hence its not effective anymore because it has much lower quality”. However in March 2003 UN report about Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction there is the following on page 77 (Page 79 of the pdf file), paragraph 1 of the report http://www.un.org/Depts/unmovic/documents/6mar.pdf : “ The Sulfur Mustard contained in...

Societies and cultures fall when conventions, traditions, and customs are subsumed to anarchistic breeches of those traditions and customs. The very essence of our Conservatism is tied to seeing that those traditions and customs are not replaced willy-nilly, but that we consider the weight of changes and use our reason to determine if a change is salutary or deleterious. Over the past several days I have seen what I believe to be very deleterious changes taking place at Free Republic, and being Conservative by nature, allied to tradition, and filled with the utmost respect for the customs that enabled Free...

There's something very healthy about this annual ritual of setting goals for the new year. Because without goals, we just don't achieve our objectives. If we don't know where we're going, how can we expect to get there? I've set some personal goals for 2005. Some of them may seem beyond my ability. Some of them may seem too big even for a mass movement to accomplish in the next year or two. Some of them may seem like I'm biting off more than I can chew. I would agree. They are. But, again, without setting goals and objectives, we...
