A STUPID NEWBIE QUESTION

I've been participating on FR in comments only a short while now but I learn (mostly) quickly (self promotion!).

My one delay on the FR Learning Curve is whattheheck does "bttt" mean?

I see it often on threads but I don't understand:

(1.) what the acronym (please tell me it's an acronym) means; and,

(2.) what purrpose it serves to type it.

So, oh wise learned Freepers, please explain. I thankyew.

Bump To The Top...

Meant as an agreement

It keeps a interesting thread visible in messages which might encourage others to read and/or comment.

Or it means Big Tatter Tots Trashed. In which case I haven't the foggiest. :)

It also serves to bump the thread to the top of the Latest Posts page, where most Freepers hang out. It's a way of keeping a thread that you think is important in the limelight.

Back when FR only had thousands (as opposed to today's hundreds of thousands) of members, many followed the action by looking at the latest posts page. This showed every reply posted regardless of which thread it was on.

By typing bttp (bump to the top) you made the thread you were 'bumping' show at the top of the latest posts page.

WIth today's volume of posts, I personally don't follow the latest posts page any more
