WASHINGTON (AP) — The Veterans Affairs secretary has reversed a department memo that aimed to ban VA displays of the iconic “V-J Day in Times Square” photograph of a Navy sailor kissing a strange woman on the streets of New York at the end of World War II. Secretary Denis McDonough acted hours after a copy of a memo from a VA assistant undersecretary requesting the photo’s removal from all VA health facilities was shared on social media. The memo had said the photo “depicts a non-consensual act” and is inconsistent with the department’s sexual harassment policy. McDonough on Tuesday...

First there was Apple, and then, the flood gates opened. Celebrities have been giving their babies weird and wacky names for years – from Kulture to X Æ A-12. But not every country allows parents to be quite so free and easy with their children’s monikers. In New Zealand, for example, you have to comply with a strict set of rules when picking that all important name. Each one is reviewed by the government, and parents are allowed to present a reasoning for it before a decision is made. When registering a baby, the rules are: •Don’t use official titles...

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) said Friday on MSNBC’s “José Díaz-Balart Reports” that she was hopeful former President Donald Trump will be banned from other state ballots following the Colorado Supreme Court ruling. Wasserman Schultz said, “I know there has been a lot of chatter over the last few days since this court ruling about whether or not section three of the 14th Amendment was intended to apply to presidents of the United States, foreign presidents. The Section 3 begins, ‘No person shall,’ I mean, it doesn’t have an exception for other offices, and it applies specifically if you are...

#3) Instead of me writing it, let me screengrab it so we can all laugh together [pdf page 9]. Wait, what? Yes, that’s correct. As long as President Trump appeals the decision to the Supreme Court, the appeals court stays their own ruling – essentially indefinitely. The Colorado primary ballots printed, and the primary election will be over, before the Supreme Court puts this on their docket. In addition to the virtual guarantee the high court will overrule this political nonsense, SCOTUS can make the entire issue moot before them by following their own normal schedule for submissions, arguments, deliberation...

Buyer beware. If you walk into a supermarket, convenience store, or other retailer anywhere in America and notice that they have Mountain Dew and Sunny Delight in their refrigerators, and Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, and Twizzlers for sale in the candy aisle, you wouldn’t think anything about it. But if you wandered into a shop in England and saw those same drinks and candies, then there’s a good chance that retailer is about to get a visit from the Trading Standards office. Trading Standards, the local authorities that enforce consumer-protection regulations, have seized thousands of dollars worth of common American candies...

A federal judge ruled today that a ban on drag shows at a Texas public university can remain in effect while a lawsuit challenging it proceeds, writing that drag performances are not categorically protected under the First Amendment. U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas Matthew Kacsmaryk, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, denied a motion for a preliminary injunction against West Texas A&M University from banning future drag shows on campus. Kacsmaryk also granted the university president, Walter Wendler, qualified immunity from the lawsuit, filed by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). "Because men...

UFC’s Sean Strickland has established himself as one of the most polarizing characters in the combat sports realm. His lack of filter on almost every other worldly issue has some laughing hysterically while downright disgusting others. Due to his brash approach, the 32-year-old has emerged as a fan favorite for a good chunk of the MMA community.Strickland is set to face Abus Magomedov in the main event of this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night. He returns to the Octagon after defeating Nassourdine Imavov on days’ notice earlier this year. Ahead of the said bout, Sean pulled no punches in a pre-fight...

The Taliban has now banned women from a famous, family-filled national park because they are allegedly ditching their hijab once inside. The Vice and Virtue Ministry of the regime that seized power in 2021 and is known for its atrocities and its ever-tightening restrictions on women said that failure to wear an Islamic head scarf was the culprit. The list of things forbidden to women could read like an inverted Dr. Seuss title, “Oh the Places You Can’t Go”: higher education is banned, employment is off the table, beauty salons are closed, working out at a gym is off limits...

Prosecutors originally claimed they were not seeking a gag order against Trump, rather they just wanted to make sure he did not "misuse" their evidence. According to Bloomberg, State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan's ordered that anyone with access to the evidence in the case cannot "copy, disseminate or disclose” the evidence to any third party, including social media, without court approval. A Vermont religious school that withdrew its girls’ basketball team from a playoff game because a biological male who identifies as a transgender student was on the roster of the opposing team is now banned from future tournaments. The Vermont Principals’ Association announced Monday that Mid Vermont Christian School’s decision to forfeit its Feb. 21 game because it believed a trans player “jeopardizes the fairness of the game and the safety of our players” makes it “ineligible” to play in any of its tournaments — for any sport — going forward.
