Loudon County commissioners voted 10 to zero Monday night to take down warning signs that prohibit firearms inside the county's office building. This idea was pitched by recently elected Loudon County Mayor Rollen "Buddy" Bradshaw, who says this move is all about safety. Former US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) of Arizona began a nine-state tour Tuesday in Maine focusing on the need for tougher gun control measures to protect women and children. Ms. Giffords, who was severely wounded in a 2011 shooting in Tucson, Ariz., that killed six people, has become a key figure in the national gun control campaign. The campaign highlights the increasingly prominent role women have played in both sides in the gun control debate – particularly since the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings in 2012.

A bullet wounded a woman in the leg at a firing range in a freak accident that did not directly involve a gun, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office said Monday. About 2 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a call for help at the Lemoore Sportsman Range in the 23000 block of Elgin Avenue, west of Highway 41 and south of the Kings River. Deputies learned that a bullet hit a woman in the leg without actually coming out of the barrel of a gun.

University officials threatened to call the police and disciplinary action against students who were passing out copies of the U.S. Constitution at Southern Oregon University (SOU) last week. A group of four students at SOU handed out copies of the Constitution on campus Tuesday while collecting signatures to end the university’s restrictive speech policies, which limit free speech to an area that totals less than one percent of campus. While doing so, the students were approached multiple times by school administrators and campus police who all asked the students to move to a different area of campus.
