Former NHL defenseman Steve Montador died at age 35, as first reported by TVA’s Renaud Lavoie. The Mississauga News reports that he was found dead at his home at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. Police do not suspect foul play. Montador last performed in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2011-12. He played 571 regular season games spread out between the Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins and Blackhawks. Former Miami Dolphins fullback Rob Konrad apparently fell off his boat off the South Florida coast but arrived safely on shore early Thursday morning after swimming at least 10 hours and nine miles through the Atlantic Ocean waters, according to the Coast Guard. Konrad was wearing only his underwear when he approached the driveway gate of 1800 S. Ocean Blvd. and told a Palm Beach police officer working a security shift about his incredible experience, a Palm Beach police report says.

Two of America's brightest young ski prospects were killed Monday when an avalanche struck the Austrian Alps slopes where they were training for an international competition. Maybe Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel's rookie season will be remembered as a bump on the road to a great career, or as a sign that he was one of the most-hyped busts of this century. (CNN) -- A missing Ohio State University football player has been found dead, authorities said Sunday. Kosta Karageorge, a fifth-year senior, had missed practice Wednesday and hadn't been seen since. Sgt. Richard Weiner, with Columbus police, said that Karageorge died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was found inside a Dumpster and identified at the scene through tattoos, Weiner said. A handgun was also recovered at the scene. It was not immediately clear how long the body had been in the Dumpster, Weiner said. An investigation is ongoing.

Police say an Ohio State football player who disappeared shortly after sending a text message about his concussions was found dead Sunday in a dumpster, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police Sgt. Rich Weiner says a woman and her son apparently looking for items in the dumpster found the body, and police were called.

Bob Suter, a member of the 1980 U.S. "Miracle on Ice" team and father of Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, died Tuesday. He was 57. "We are very saddened by today's news that Minnesota Wild scout Bob Suter suddenly passed away," the Wild said in a statement. "The Wild organization sends its condolences to the entire Suter family during this difficult time. Not only was Bob a great hockey ambassador, he was a terrific person off the ice who will be greatly missed by all of us." The cause of death was not given.

Michael Sam signed with the Dallas Cowboys today after passing his physical exam with the team, according to various reports. He will be placed on the team's practice squad. Sam grew up in Galveston, Texas, about four hours south of Dallas. Sam's estranged father lives in the Dallas area.

Arizona State University football player Edward "Chip" Sarafin has come out as gay, according to Compete Magazine. In the magazine's August issue, the offensive linebacker said he told his teammates last spring. "It was really personal to me, and it benefited my peace of mind greatly," he said.
