The consolidation of the corporate media entities continues apace, with CNN set to feature Associated Press (AP) content on its website for the first time in nearly 15 years. CNN staffers fret that the move, pushed by the network’s CEO Mark Thompson, is a prelude to layoffs as the corporate news organization moves away from original reporting. The CNN-AP deal is the latest in a line of schemes to revive the network’s collapsing audience. In late May, it was revealed the network logged its lowest primetime ratings since 1991. According to Nielsen data, the network’s 8 PM to 11 PM...

The Associated Press has morphed into a Berkeley-style left-wing rag. The key difference is that the Associated Press plays to a global audience of millions. Take, for example, how the AP broke the news this week of the Supreme Court’s ruling against Colorado’s attempt to keep former President Donald Trump off the ballot. The court ruled unanimously, 9-0, that Colorado had no legal authority to bar a candidate from running for federal office. A majority of the justices added that this would in fact require an act of Congress. Yet here is how the Associated Press reported the breaking news,...

WASHINGTON - Dr. Anthony Fauci has been a political lightning rod since the early days of the pandemic, lionized by the left as a beacon of truth in an administration that badly mismanaged the pandemic and villainized by the right as a misguided, spotlight-seeking bureaucrat seeking to undermine former President Donald Trump. But with the release of a trove of Fauci’s emails this week, Republicans’ attacks on the nation’s top government infectious-diseases expert have gone into overdrive. On conservative news channels, Fauci — who now serves as President Joe Biden’s pandemic adviser — has been pilloried as a liar who...

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - My colleagues’ shouts awakened me, and the pounding of my heart drowned out the racing of my mind. What was happening? Had someone been injured on the streets of Gaza City, or worse?

It was 1:55 p.m. on Saturday. I had been napping on the upper floor of the two-floor penthouse that served as The Associated Press’ offices in Gaza City since 2006. This was not unusual in recent days; since fighting began earlier this month, I had been sleeping in our news bureau until early afternoon, then working through the night.

In July 2011, the Associated Press hired Chris Tomlinson to be its Supervisory Correspondent in its Austin, TX bureau. The AP’s news reporting is supposed to be neutral and non-partisan, but Tomlinson is not. He came to the AP from a gig at the Texas Observer, which is the same lefty publication that was once the home of Molly Ivins. The Observer by its own admission promotes “progressive change for Texas.” Well, the Observer used to describe itself that way. Now that page pulls up a 404 error — it has been deep-sixed. But blogger Bradley J. Fikes was alert

The Associated Press scandal just keeps getting worse, and we haven't even started yet. AP CEO Gary Pruitt informed staffers Wednesday that the Department of Justice monitored, not one, not twenty, but "thousands and thousands" of phone calls made by reporters and editors. Associated Press president and chief executive Gary Pruitt told staff at a Wednesday town hall meeting that the phone records obtained by the government included "thousands and thousands" of calls in and out of the news organization, according to a staffer who attended. Pruitt said Wednesday that the Obama administration acted as "judge, jury and executioner" in...

Unsurpisingly, the Associated Press has advised its staff NOT to call the Ground Zero mosque … the Ground Zero mosque (via): Colleagues, Here is some guidance on covering the NYC mosque story, with assists from Chad Roedemeier in the NYC bureau and Terry Hunt in Washington: 1. We should continue to avoid the phrase “ground zero mosque” or “mosque at ground zero” on all platforms. (We’ve very rarely used this wording, except in slugs, though we sometimes see other news sources using the term.) The site of the proposed Islamic center and mosque is not at ground zero, but two...

On Monday (June 14), Associated Press reporter Colleen Long wrote two articles about two different criminal cases in New York State, both involving political operatives accused of breaking the law. The first was about "Hank Morris... adviser to former state comptroller Alan Hevesi, [who] has been accused of taking kickbacks and other payments...." The second was about John Haggerty, who is accused of duping New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg into giving him money for campaign expenses and then using the money for personal expenses instead. The story about Morris never mentioned that he was a Democrat political consultant, or...

...The AP’s disharmony with bloggers may have only just begun, as the alternative it’s now offering to being served with takedown notices involves paying an up-front sum for excerpting online articles — as few as five words… The pricing scale for excerpting AP content begins at $12.50 for 5-25 words and goes as high as $100 for 251 words and up. Nonprofit organizations and educational institutions enjoy a discounted rate. The AP notice can be found: HERE.

The New York Times gets its fair share of criticism. So does CNN. So do the major broadcast networks. The Washington Post and L.A. Times have their own detractors. In fact, these days, nearly everyone recognizes press bias, incompetence and arrogance when they see it in the major media.Yet, it is my considered opinion that one news agency gets off nearly scot-free from criticism despite being the worst purveyor of political propaganda and distortion. I refer to the largest news-gathering organization in the world – the Associated Press. For the life of me, I don't understand why there haven't been...

I constantly hear liberals decry the policies of George W. Bush, using catch phrases like “out of the mainstream” and “dangerously irresponsible” to describe them. Apparently, if you repeat something often enough, using the same carefully crafted terminology, and applying to it with the same condescending tone each time, it magically becomes the truth... at least in the minds of leftists. And, of course, the primary policy target of left-wingers in Congress remains the war in Iraq, even though nearly all of them supported it initially. As recent polls show support for the war waning, liberals all over the country...

How close should journalists get to thugs and murderers to get the facts? It's a question that has troubled editors for a long time, but a question that isn't asked nearly often enough. The question takes on new significance in an age of terrorism. We revisit it now that Columbia University has awarded a Pulitzer Prize to an anonymous Associated Press photographer whose connections to terrorists yielded an extraordinary scoop. By the rules, the AP did nothing wrong. But in a heated exchange with critics who saw the photographs as complicity with terror, an AP spokesman explained that the photographer...

Members of the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) Black Caucus have become seemingly desensitized to racial slurs. The Caucus did not even blink when the extreme Left’s new champion, Howard Dean, made prejudiced statements right before their very eyes. From Dean’s comments, it seems he believes that a Black person’s place is to be cleaning toilets at a hotel in which whites stay. According to the Washington Times, On Feb. 11, the day before he was elected party chief, Mr. Dean asked, at a meeting of the DNC Black Caucus, "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people...

Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The family of Terri Schiavo is upset by an Associated Press news report that appeared in hundreds of newspapers on Thursday and Friday. Bob and Mary Schindler say the report makes it appear that eating orders caused Terri's collapse in 1990 when she did not have such problems. They say other evidence shows physical abuse could have been the cause. Written by reporter Vickie Chachere, the AP news story says the "lost lesson" in the Terri Schiavo controversy is combating eating disorders. "It is a twist lost on no one close to the case: A woman...

ALBANY, Ga. - Frank Jones says he's angry about newly revealed memos that indicate President Bush (news - web sites) got preferential treatment in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam war, but he's not surprised by favoritism in the Guard. Jones, a Republican from Troy, N.Y., served in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971 before doing 16 years in the Guard himself. As the presidential election nears, Jones says controversy over both candidates' military records and the mounting death toll in Iraq (news - web sites) are important issues.
