Yesterday I posted In these chaotic times, a brief AR-15 primer and some said that they prefer their AR-10 in .308. I suspect that what they have may actually be a LR308 which is incorrectly called an AR-10. This post is more advanced than the AR-15 primer and discusses the differences between the AR-10 and the LR308: Before we dive into the subject of differentiating different style of AR10 patterns — first, let’s make sure we all know what an AR10 actually is. The AR10, or ArmaLite 10, is a rifle designed around the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge. Developed by Eugene...

AR platforms have attracted many shooters from plinkers, hunters to long range competitive shooters. Even women are into AR's due to its lightweight system. Before making the decision to go with an AR10 or AR15, lets take a look at the comparisons and some questions surrounding the AR10 and AR15. Are AR15 and AR10 triggers interchangeable? Most AR15 triggers will physically fit and function in a current AR-10 and 308AR rifle. However the reason AR-10 and 308 AR specific triggers exist is for one main reason, military primers. The primers in military ammo often require more energy to ignite the...

Its realistic niche is for a designated marksman or a hunter working from a blind. The Aero Precision M5E1 is a logical development from the more basic M5 .308 autoloading rifle. It is positioned as a firearm that's practical in the field, yet more accurate and capable of sustained fire than typical hunting or defense rifles. The main upgrade is the strengthened receiver designed to give monolithic-rail effects without its logistical disadvantage, namely the difficulty of changing the forend. The area where the freefloated handguard and the barrel attach to the receiver has been beefed up relative to the typical...

We can all agree that ARÂ’s are not only reliable but are great at short ranges from 0 to 300 yards. But what if you want to reach out further to 400 yard or 1000 yards? For the larger cartridge would the AR be able to deliver the same punch as its cousin the .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor? Before making the decision to go with an AR10 or AR15, lets take a look at the comparisons.AR-10 The AR10 rifle is an air-cooled lightweight rifle that is gas operated and comes with the 7.62mm (.308) barrel. uses the standardized 7.62x51mm loads...

Theres probably lots of you gun hobbyist/hunters out there that have built your own AR’s. Not all of us have done this. Johnny Muller, of Kansas City, built an AR-10, by piecing together components and a little instruction from his military buddy. To start, he got a builder kit from Aero Precision to use as a base and then pieced together his custom rifle using his favorite parts. This included Magpul furniture, a Geissele trigger and a VG6 7.62 muzzle brake. For optics, Muller chose the Nikon M-308 with BDA reticle and 20-MOA mount because he was impressed by how...

Will the military grade ballistic plate stop these rounds? Watch as Jerry Miculek pits an AR-10 .30 cal against body armor with some high-volume rapid fire. Jerry is trying to duplicate what Richard Ryan of Full Mag did, and that is he fired a .30 cal machine gun at a piece of armor. Jerry will be using the same cal with an AR-10 with the standard NATO 7.62 ball 147 grain rounds. There it is, the plates were able to absorb the hits against it, round after round. There is a reason modern light infantry and combat soldiers wear integrated...

In 1955, the small Californian firearms company ArmaLite unveiled one of the most defining and influential rifles of the 20th century — the AR-10. The hard-hitting rifle would see extensive service in bitter colonial conflicts and provide the basis for the M-16, one of the most iconic rifles of all time.

The mid-late 1950s… Could there be a more optimistic time in United States history? I feel there’s no better rifle to illustrate the industry, innovation, and unbridled optimism of that time than the Armalite AR-10 7.62x51mm select-fire military rifle. Made of aerospace materials, using an advanced operating mechanism, and weighing in at an inadvisably light 7 pounds and change, unloaded, the AR-10 was an exercise in logic of the type best said “we have defeated Germany and Japan, and split the atom, why shouldn’t we do this?”

I'm looking to purchase a battle rifle next year in .308, and can't decide what I want to get. I love the AR-15 rifles in 5.56mm, but have heard some bad things about reliability of the AR-10s. Also, the recoil is apparently more from this rifle than the other 308 semi-autos. But the AR-10 does have the advantage of having the same manual of arms as an AR-15. Another consideration is the Springfield M1A Scout. The M1A was ranked #1 by Boston T. Party in his "Gun Bible", and has a lot going for it. Finally, there is the FN-FAL....
