7.62 would require a different zero.

Using a ballistics program input with the AR sight height and M80 ball ammo I get -1.49" low at 25 yards with a 100 yard zero.

So it would seem just group 1.5" below point of aim. No zero crossing at that close of a zero. Investing in a laser bore sight is not a bad idea as well.

Brownell’s has a laser boresighter for $40. Takes all the work out of it. Plus you can check your sights at any time to make sure they are perfect. Works for high scope, low scope or open sights.

Even better yet sight it in at 1.25 low at 25 that will put you about 1.5 high at a 100 real close to on at 200.

With all due respect, a public forum is not a good place to be discussing your firearms and their needs. You do understand the Federal government is in the process of locating, and documenting ALL firearms in this country for future confiscation? Federal Firearm Registry Data Base. Where do you think they are getting that info on YOUR firearms?

Stick a 3/4 inch sticky dot on a piece of paper and sight in at 1.25 in. low for a decent 100-200 yard zero. No reason to get fancy for a target at 25 yards. Best reason to own a 308 is for distance shooting. Well, that and punching holes in tougher stuff than a .22 will go through. You will still need to do some work out further distance, but that will make it easier to sight in out there.

I think they got all the info they need on the NICS check.

Not all AR’s have the same sight height. I use taller scope mount, 3 inch sight height, I get 1.91 inches for 100 yd zero.

Also I recommend using a 200 yd zero for .223 or any high velocity round. This will give you a greater point blank range than a 100 yd zero. In other words you don’t have to worry about hold over until 250 yds or so.
