The control systems of Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant have been penetrated by a computer worm unleashed last year, according to a foreign intelligence report that warns of a possible Chernobyl-like disaster once the site becomes fully operational. Russia's envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, also has raised the specter of the 1986 reactor explosion in Ukraine, but suggested last week that the danger had passed. The report, drawn up by a nation closely monitoring Iran's nuclear program and obtained by The Associated Press, said such conclusions were premature and based on the "casual assessment" of Russian and Iranian scientists at Bushehr.

Authorities in California say 25 protesters have been arrested for trespassing outside a strategy session of conservative political donors at a Palm Springs-area resort. Riverside County Deputy Melissa Nieburger (NEE'-bur-gur) said Sunday that the protesters were being booked at Indio Jail and released. Hundreds of people participated in the mostly peaceful demonstration that had been arranged with authorities, but some protesters crossed the street to the Rancho Las Palmas Resort.

Editorial: Will Obama Lose Egypt? Posted 01/28/2011 06:56 PM ET An Ally Imperiled: What Egyptians are demonstrating against, whether they know it or not, is socialism. What they — and we — could end up with is another Iran. Is President Obama repeating Carter's Shah betrayal? Revolutions are like fires. They can make life better, or they can destroy. Three decades ago, Iran — after being saved from Soviet dominance by the U.S. in 1953 — traded in the flawed autocratic rule of the Shah for the bloodthirsty Islamist fanaticism of the Ayatollah Khomeini. At the time, Jimmy Carter's presidency...

Bwahahahahahahaha--love it! ******************* A "Black Widow" suicide bomber planned a terrorist attack in central Moscow on New Year's Eve but was killed when an unexpected text message set off her bomb too early, according to Russian security sources. The unnamed woman, who is thought to be part of the same group that struck Moscow's Domodedovo airport on Monday, intended to detonate a suicide belt near Red Square on New Year's Eve in an attack that could have killed hundreds. Security sources believe a message from her mobile phone operator wishing her a happy new year received just hours before the...

Radio personality Mike Evans, who says he was mistaken when he told a radio station that Gov. Neil Abercrombie said there is no birth certificate in Hawaii for Barack Obama, now says he's going to be grilling the governor on the issue, if he can get hold of him. WND reported earlier this week when Evans said in an interview with 92 KQRS Morning Show in Minneapolis, "Yesterday, talking to Neil's office, Neil says that he's searched everywhere using his powers as governor at the Kapi'olani Women's and Children's Hospital and Queens Hospital, the only places where kids were born...

The President’s State of the Union address boiled down to this message: “The era of big government is here as long as I am, so help me pay for it.” He dubbed it a “Winning The Future” speech, but the title’s acronym seemed more accurate than much of the content. Americans are growing impatient with a White House that still just doesn’t get it. The President proves he doesn’t understand that the biggest challenge facing our economy is today’s runaway debt when he states we want to make sure “we don’t get buried under a mountain a debt.” That’s the...

Obama's State of the Union Was Tantamount to Plagiarism January 26, 2011 By Alvin Felzenberg If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, what can be said of plagiarism? President Obama’s second State of the Union address contained enough recycled ideas and lines lifted from speeches of others to make historians wince. I suppose this is what one does when one not only has nothing new to say, but is required by custom and Constitution to come forth with a report of some kind by a certain time and day. Had Obama or his writers been considerate enough to have...

Dugway Proving Ground, in Utah’s western desert, was placed on lockdown Wednesday evening. Al Vogel, a public affairs specialist for the installation, would only say that the lockdown began at 5:24 p.m. Employees were not allowed to leave, and those coming to work were not allowed in. Vogel said there were no injuries, no damage and no threats reported at the proving ground. There were about 1,200 to 1,400 people at Dugway when the lockdown occurred. Dugway Proving Ground is a U.S. Army testing and training base in Tooele County where military weapons are tested.

Meghan McCain appeared on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’ Donnell and tried her best to grill Michelle Bachmann by referring to her as a “poor man’s Sarah Palin.” She said: I think it’s important to note that Michelle Bachmann is not a leader, and she’s not the leader of the Republican party. Michelle Bachmann in my opinion is no better than a poor man’s Sarah Palin and I think the fact that MSNBC and Fox elected not to run this is admirable to the kind of journalism that Fox and MSNBC is airing. I think CNN should be...

Who would have thought something seemingly as juvenile as having a so-called prom date would give an aura of maturity? At Tuesday’s State of the Union address, according to California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, it did. Boxer appeared on MSNBC’s special State of the Union night edition of “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.” O’Donnell asked Boxer and her “date,” Rep. John Mica, Florida Republican, if this seating arrangement made a difference.

Lawyers working for a retired military officer who is challenging Barack Obama's eligibility to be president say the U.S. Supreme Court appears to have broken its own rules by failing to respond to a pending recusal motion, thus conceding the point and possibly requiring a new conference vote among the seven remaining justices, including four mostly conservative, on whether the high court will hear arguments over Obama's legitimacy. Laurence Elgin, one of the experts working with the Constitutional Rule of Law Fund and website, told WND that the issue arose in the case brought by retired Col. Greg Hollister, who...
  • Was Genghis Khan history's greenest conqueror? (Mongol invasion scrubbed 700 million tons of carbon)

Genghis Khan's Mongol invasion in the 13th and 14th centuries was so vast that it may have been the first instance in history of a single culture causing man-made climate change, according to new research out of the Carnegie Institution's Department of Global Ecology, reports Mongabay.com. Unlike modern day climate change, however, the Mongol invasion cooled the planet, effectively scrubbing around 700 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere. So how did Genghis Khan, one of history's cruelest conquerors, earn such a glowing environmental report card? The reality may be a bit difficult for today's environmentalists to stomach, but Khan...
