Assistant Secretary of State Elliott Abrams discussed relations between the US and Central American countries. Longish but amazing. Worth every bit.

Former U.S. diplomat Elliott Abrams will lead U.S. efforts on Venezuela, where Washington has recognized an opposition leader as the legitimate president, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday. “Elliott will be a true asset to our mission to help the Venezuelan people fully restore democracy and prosperity to their country,” Pompeo said in announcing Abrams’ appointment. He said Abrams would accompany him to the United Nations on Saturday for a Security Council meeting on Venezuela where the U.S. will press other countries to support opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s interim head of state. After losing close governor’s races in Georgia and Florida, Stacey Abrams and Andrew Gillum are joining other black leaders to oppose one of President Donald Trump’s picks for a lifetime federal judgeship. Abrams and Gillum say in a joint statement Tuesday that the Senate should reject Thomas Farr’s nomination to a district court in North Carolina. The Democrats say Farr has a “discriminatory ideology” that threatens the voting rights of nonwhites. …

While Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams is continuing to unload on Republican Governor-elect Brian Kemp since losing the election last week, he's not firing back, saying what she does with her time is her own business. Abrams acknowledged defeat 10 days after the election on Friday, trailing by nearly 55,000 votes and more than 17,000 votes short of forcing a runoff. However, she did not give a normal concession speech, blasting her opponent as an architect of voter suppression and saying the "state failed its voters." Since announcing the formation of a new group called "Fair Fight Georgia" and...

Throughout the course of the interview, Tapper pressed Abrams several times on the issue — and she repeatedly refused to use the word “legitimate.” “Sherrod Brown says the election was stolen. Do you agree that it was stolen and do you think that Brian Kemp is not the legitimate governor-elect of Georgia?” Tapper asked. (RELATED: Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams Admits She’ll Lose But Doesn’t Concede The Race) “The law, as it stands, says that he received an adequate number of votes to become the governor of Georgia,” Abrams began. “And I acknowledge the law as it stands. I am...

What do Democrat, losers, Andrew Gillum, Stacey Abrams & Bill Nelson all have in common. Barack Hussein Obama, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey & Chuck Schumer all came to Florida and Georgia to campaign for them...and all of them lost their races. Of course, the Democrats with brains & street smarts, realized that having the Obama's, Clinton, Schumer & Winfrey campaign for them is the kiss of political death. I see the Clintons have cancelled their grand tour, no one has signed up to attend. Methinks, the Obama's and Clinton's are toast as effective campaigners for any Democrats. Case...

Abrams "concedes" she has lost the governor's election in Georgia. She said she won't call it a concession speech in a royal temper tantrum.

While much of the nation’s attention has been focused on the post-election shenanigans in south Florida that resulted in a recount for the U.S. Senate seat and governorship, the governor’s race in Georgia also remains uncalled at this time as Democrat-led legal fights have delayed the certification of the vote totals in the hope of similarly triggering a recount or runoff election. Those efforts to delay the inevitable declaration of victory for Republican candidate Brian Kemp may have finally run their course, though, and even as Democrat candidate Stacey Abrams camp is calling a federal judge’s ruling on Wednesday a...

Appearing on MSNBC Thursday morning to defend Democrat Stacey Abrams’ refusal to concede the race for governor in Georgia and hurl accusations of voter suppression against Republican Brian Kemp, Abrams campaign manager Lauren Groh-Wargo touted support from disgraced former CBS News anchor Dan Rather and MSNBC’s own Joe Scarborough. . . "GROH-WARGO: And that is a very clear effort really exposing these issues. Because here’s the deal, whatever happens with our campaign, we’ve got to fix the system here in Georgia."

A Georgia federal judge ruled in favor of Democrat Stacey Abrams’ campaign Monday night, ordering election officials to review thousands of provisional ballots that have not been counted in the contested election for governor. Judge Amy Totenberg, a New Yorker who serves on the Atlanta-based court, said that the race cannot be officially certified until those ballots were counted. Many voters have complained they were told at polling stations they weren’t registered and had to file provisional ballots. Abrams would need to gain more than 20,000 votes to force a runoff against Republican Brian Kemp.

A federal judge on Monday ordered election officials to review thousands of provisional ballots that haven’t been counted in Georgia’s close election for governor. U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg’s order calls for a hotline for voters to check if their provisional ballots were counted, a review of voter registrations, and updated reports from the state government about why many voters were required to use provisional ballots. The court decision comes as votes are still being counted in the race for governor between Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp. Abrams trails Kemp and would need to gain more than 20,000...

Georgia gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp said Nov. 12 that updated vote totals affirmed his victory as his opponent, Stacey Abrams, filed a lawsuit to stop counties from throwing out some rejected provisional and absentee ballots. As of Nov. 12, the reported vote totals showed Kemp ahead by nearly 58,875 votes, with 50.2 percent of the vote, compared with Abrams’s 48.7 percent. While Abrams has contended that the final vote count could see Kemp fall under 50 percent, which would trigger a runoff, Kemp said that won’t happen. According to a statement from Kemp’s campaign, no more than 13,360 ballots remain...

If we are honest, the early conventional wisdom was Georgia's Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams had zero chance of beating Republican Brian Kemp. She is a progressive black woman running for governor against a conservative white man in a deep-red state that Trump won handily in 2016. But the truth is: Her campaign was so good, and she is so compelling, that Abrams would almost certainly be governor-elect right now -- if the election had been fair. As the final votes are tallied, Kemp enjoys a razor-thin margin -- but it is the product of misconduct so brazen and unethical...

Volunteers spread out Friday trying to find any ballots that could help Democrat Stacey Abrams close the gap against Republican Brian Kemp in their unsettled, too-close-to-call race for Georgia governor. Unofficial returns show Kemp with an advantage, and he’s already resigned as secretary of state to start a transition with the blessing of the outgoing GOP governor, Nathan Deal. President Donald Trump weighed in with a tweet that said Kemp “ran a great race in Georgia - he won. It is time to move on!” Yet Abrams, who hopes to become the nation’s first black female governor, sent out volunteers...

After a hard-fought and often nasty campaign, Georgia’s Secretary of State Brian Kemp has won the race to become the state’s next governor over House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams. Kemp eked out a victory with fewer than 70,000 votes separating him from Abrams. Quixotic Libertarian candidate Ted Metz picked up just over 37,000 votes. Howard Dean ✔ @GovHowardDean She should not concede. The election was almost certainly stolen by a candidate who supervised his own “election”

ATLANTA — Georgia’s hotly contested and potentially historic governor’s race may not be over yet, with Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp awaiting the final accounting of absentee and provisional ballots. With reported votes approaching 3.8 million, Kemp was just shy of 51 percent, but Abrams and her campaign said there were enough ballots outstanding, particularly absentee and mail-in ballots in heavily Democratic metro Atlanta counties, to bring the Republican below the majority threshold required for victory. “We believe our chance for a stronger Georgia is just within reach, but we cannot seize it until all voices are heard,”...
