The staff of a newspaper can run any images they want, or refuse to run any images they want. They’re paid to make those decisions. And when the rationalizations they give for their editorial judgments are a bunch of crap, we can point out that they’re a bunch of crap.Back in January, here’s what New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet told his public editor, Margaret Sullivan, about his decision not to publish the Charlie Hebdo cartoons after their staff was slaughtered by Muslim terrorists: He said he had spent “about half of my day” on the question, seeking out...

Ted Cruz has some unsolicited advice for the states not specifically named in last week’s Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage: Ignore it. “Those who are not parties to the suit are not bound by it,” the Texas Republican told NPR News’ Steve Inskeep in an interview published on Monday. Since only suits against the states of Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan and Kentucky were specifically considered in the Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges decision, which was handed down last Friday, Cruz — a former Supreme Court clerk — believes that other states with gay marriage bans need not comply, absent a...

The Supreme Court’s decision Friday that same sex marriages are constitutionally guaranteed hasn’t brought the love out from the left — it’s brought out their hate. And it’s disgusting. Jeffrey Luscombe, who describes himself as a gay, Canadian freelance writer, thought it was humorous when a black man, wearing an “Ask Me About Jesus” sweatshirt, was blown kisses by a group of men as he tried to make his way through a gay pride event.

Many Nigerians have condemned the United States for legalising same-sex marriage. The US Supreme Court made same-sex marriage legal throughout the country on Friday in a much-awaited landmark decision. In a 5-4 ruling, the apex court stated that the Constitution required all 50 states to carry out and recognise marriages between people of the same sex. The ruling made the US the 21st country in the world that recognises same sex marriage as legal. President Barack Obama who welcomed the verdict described it “a victory for America.” While Obama considers the verdict as being a welcome development, many Nigerians on...

Watching the Kelly File right now where she is breaking some news, discussing the Freddy Gray case. You all may remember the news article about Donta Allen stating that he heard Freddy Gray "trying to hurt himself" inside the van. These claims he later denied to the media, claiming he never even spoke to an investigator. Well, according to Kelly, in a massive evidence dump today, not only did Donta Allen say what the original news article claimed, but the interview is on video. On that video he says "he was trying to hurt himself." Kelly is saying there's no...

It’s no surprise that the Iranian nuclear program talks are shaky; Guy has detailed the long, tedious, and sometime frustrating timeline of these diplomatic talks. So, given that we’re approaching the June 30th deadline–with the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei issuing demands that the U.S. could never agree to–what’s the military option, if there is one? The answer is MOP, or “Massive Ordnance Penetrator;” the largest and most powerful nonnuclear bomb we have in our arsenal (via Politico): …at least three times in the past year, a B-2 stealth bomber has taken off from an Air Force base in Missouri...

~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Sierra Army Depot, California Sierra Army Depot is a United States Army post and ammunition storage facility located near the unincorporated community of Herlong, California. It was built in 1942 as one of several ammunition storage facilities located far enough inland to be safe from Japanese attack. The site also met the requirement that the depot be in a dry and isolated area. Since the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure decision (BRAC) to realign the Depot by reducing its conventional ammunition mission, the Depot has increased its emphasis on the receipt,...

Speaking in the Rose Garden shortly after the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage was announced, Obama stated that the progressives in society needs to ‘help’ those with deeply held religious beliefs overcome their convictions. “Opposition in some cases has been based on sincere and deeply held beliefs,” Obama said. “All of us who welcome today’s news should be mindful of that fact. Recognize different viewpoints. Revere our deep commitment to religious freedom.” “Sometimes there are days like this when that slow and steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt,” Obama said. Although the progress might...

Who's afraid of Mayor Bill de Blasio in Albany? Not state Senate Republicans, who denied his request for permanent mayoral control of New York City schools, granting him one year instead. Not Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who didn't deny he and his team were the unnamed officials in news reports who belittled the mayor as "incompetent" and clueless on influencing the legislative process. Not advocates for charter schools, who won a lifting of a cap for new schools over de Blasio's opposition in the three-way agreement last week among Cuomo, state Senate Republicans and the Democrat-led state Assembly. "There isn't...

Before 1878, in a period with increased rate of ablation, a supraglacial lake formed in the centre of the glacier, this lake subsequently became covered by ice and snow. The collapse of the glacier tongue in 1892 finally released the accumulated water, a large cavity 40m in diameter and 20m high containing estimated 20.000 cubic meters water at the glacier terminus remained as testimony. From this lower cavity, an 85m long intraglacial conduit led to the upper cavity (the former lake) with an additional volume of 80.000 cubic meters. . An Open Letter to Pastor Franklin Graham and the Christian "Watchmen on the Wall" organization. Pastor Franklin Graham, First, I have the utmost respect for your father, Rev. Billy Graham. Second, I am an unapologetic sixty (60) year old Evangelical Christian, who believes in the inerrancy of scripture. Thirdly ... New Yorkers, who come from every corner of the world, speak 180 languages. Not surprisingly, nearly half of public school students speak a language other than English at home. This makes life difficult for the city's Department of Education, which, according to federal law and its own regulations, must provide translation and interpretation services to the thousands of parents of those children whose first language is not English

NEW YORK CITY – By his own telling, it’s been a lifelong struggle for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz to rein in his self-described “cocky” nature. In adolescence, young adulthood, and now as a junior senator running for the presidency, he has rubbed people the wrong way – and he is self-aware about it. “When I was in junior high and a geek, I thought that popularity was the Holy Grail,” Cruz said in a New York City interview with The Texas Tribune about his new memoir, A Time for Truth. “And in high school, where I achieved some modicum of...

Though it might seem like “no smoking” signs on airplanes aren’t even needed anymore — who could possibly think lighting up a cigarette in an enclosed cabin filled with other people is okay? — there are apparently those out there who still need reminding that smoking isn’t allowed. To wit: a United Airlines flight headed to Boston from Denver was forced to turn around after a passenger reportedly lit up and refused to stop smoking. Officials said the flight returned to Denver International Airport around midnight on Friday due to a disturbance on board, an airport spokesperson told Channel 2...

resident Obama signed hard-fought trade legislation Monday, thanking Republican leaders who helped get it done and saying the package will “reinforce America’s leadership role in the world.” “I think it’s fair to say that getting these bills through Congress has not been easy,” Mr. Obama said as he signed the trade bills into law in the East Room. “They’ve been declared dead more than once.” The two major pieces of legislation grant Mr. Obama “fast track” trade-promotion authority

The Public Order Court in Khartoum North this morning dealt with the case of one of the ten Christian women students charged with wearing indecent dress. A group of 12 women students were detained by the Public Order Police on Thursday evening when they were leaving the Baptist church in El Izba, Khartoum North, because of their “scandalous outfits”. The young women, wearing trousers and skirts, were transferred to a police station, where two of them were acquitted on Friday. The agents of the Public Order Police had reconsidered their opinion about their clothes. The ten others were charged with...
