President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration, granting de facto amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, has so outraged the tea party faction of the Republican Party that the ultra conservatives are focusing their attention and resources on this single issue, potentially causing a fissure within the party, according to The New York Times. "What started five years ago as a groundswell of conservatives committed to curtailing the reach of the federal government, cutting the deficit and countering the Wall Street wing of the Republican Party has become a movement largely against immigration overhaul," writes the Times’ Jeremy Peters. "The...

Since 7/1/2004, I have been following and supporting FR. I was pointed to this place by an acquaintance who told me that this is where real conservatives and patriots hang out. He couldn't have been more dead on. Jim and John have provided us this place to report the truth, share opinions and in many cases, just blow off steam. And, we've all done it. What I've come to appreciate over the past 10+years is the community that is Free Republic. We give each other advice from baked beans to Sig Sauers. We fix computers. We see wonderful pictures from...

Two days before Black Friday—a day that has come to be identified with record-breaking gun sales—the Associated Press is claiming that surging sales on November 28 will put guns in the hands of the wrong people. Even though the people who buy guns at retail stores go through a background check before doing so, the AP suggests the background check system we've had in place since the 1990s is too porous, allowing too many prohibited persons to buy a gun. According to the AP, "512 gun sales a day" take place to people who shouldn't be able to buy a...

Vermont Right to Life Committee Treasurer Sharon Toborg emailed a warning to pro-life Vermonters this week asking them to be careful of who they trust on the telephone. It seems that someone has been calling pro-lifers in the state claiming to be from “the Pro-Life Committee” or the “National Pro-Life Committee”. The caller is asking for donations by telephone to help the pro-life movement, however, it is definitely not a call from the Vermont Right to Life Committee (VRLC) or the National Right to Life Committee, which the VRLC is affiliated with. Toborg says VRLC has not solicited funds by...

For many, the main lesson of the Ferguson verdict is that Michael Brown would still be alive if he were white — that Darren Wilson’s gunshots were the spawn of the racism always just beneath the surface of the white American soul. However, in light of what we heard last night, I feel that the Ferguson incident is instructive to America in a larger sense. The key element in the Brown-Wilson encounter was not any specific action either man took — it was the preset hostility to the cops that Brown apparently harbored. And that hostility was key because it...

Abortionist Curtis Boyd, who has been committing abortions since before they were legalized in 1973, was featured Friday by UK-based publication The Guardian in a piece on American abortionists. The tone of the piece is one of shock and dismay that America has grown more pro-life, rather than more accepting of the tenets of Roe v. Wade, since 1973. To drive this point home, the piece includes this startling infographic from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute displaying the radical pro-life shift in opinion as evidenced by legislative restrictions on abortion. For The Guardian and for abortionists like Boyd America’s lack of...

On Tuesday evening, in the midst of the Ferguson protest outside the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), a group of protestors confronted a black police officer and challenged him. One young woman, who identified herself as a UCLA student and appeared to be white, demanded of the officer: "As a person of color, are you ashamed to be part of such a corrupt system?...As a black man, have you ever experienced racism?"

Professor Cornel West appeared on CNN International this afternoon to give his take on Ferguson, and said right at the outset, “Ferguson signifies the end of the age of Obama. It’s a very sad end. We began with tremendous hope and we end with great despair.” He went on to cite a “Jim Crow criminal justice system” that doesn’t seek justice for young black and brown people, and said adamantly there is both a race and a class war going on against that group in America right now. CNNI anchor Hala Gorani asked West why he’s “so harsh” on the

He also explains how to become a sovereign person, separate from the corporate structure. And babbles on about challenging the St. Louis City court over his status and their illegal arrest of Mr. Ali. (Video) Last week Olajuwon Ali and Brandon Muhammad were indicted in federal court for illegal firearms purchase – plotting to bomb the St. Louis Arch – and plotting to murder St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch and

Hi fellow Freepers, I have been away since the last general election, but since we cleaned up in this midterm, I have been getting back into the news and politics a little more. Anyway, I was reading a globull warming article's comments on some website, and one of the comments was from a physicist named Harry Dale Huffman. He used an equation to show that there is almost NO difference between Earth and Venus when it comes to atmospheric temperature, even though Venus has an atmosphere composed almost entirely of CO2. With indisputable math, he is able to show absolute...

Washington - Is President Obama about to take unilateral steps to ease US relations with Cuba? A number of recent developments – from Mr. Obama’s recourse to executive action on immigration to the Spanish foreign minister’s enigmatic statement that he would be carrying “very concrete messages” from the US government when he visits Havana this week – have some Republicans fretting that the White House aims to move even further from decades-old policy of isolating communist Cuba. Obama last took action on Cuba in 2011, when he eased travel restrictions on Americans visiting the island.

A new Gallup poll finds that President Barack Obama´s approval rating with working-class white Americans has fallen to just 27 percent, a record-low for his presidency. Among whites who´ve graduated college, Obama´s approval stands at 41%, also a new low in the Gallup poll. (Graph) Perhaps most troubling of all for Obama: Gallup´s data only extended to the end of October, well before the recent racially-charged riots broke out in Ferguson, Missouri, and protests across the country. "About two-thirds of adult whites have not graduated from college, making working-class whites a particularly important group politically because of its sheer size,"

Pharrell Williams, one of the biggest black figures in the music industry, has spoken out about the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, saying he is 'troubled' a grand jury decided not to indict the white police officer responsible. But the 'Happy' singer also sparked outrage from his fans by calling Brown's behavior leading up to his August 9 death 'bully-ish'. Before he was shot dead, Brown was caught on surveillance camera stealing a handful of cigarillos from a convenience store in Ferguson, Missouri, and intimidating the shop owner. While Pharrell says that was no excuse for Officer Darren Wilson to...

Yesterday, in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri, the first day of the second round of what were in different times referred to as “race riots” unfolded, much as everyone expected they would. In the images of jacked-up riot cops facing off against enraged citizens, we find an American city aping South African archival footage.

A St. Louis County grand jury on Monday decided not to indict Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson in the August killing of teenager Michael Brown. The decision wasn’t a surprise — leaks from the grand jury had led most observers to conclude an indictment was unlikely — but it was unusual. Grand juries nearly always decide to indict. Or at least, they nearly always do so in cases that don’t involve police officers. Former New York state Chief Judge Sol Wachtler famously remarked that a prosecutor could persuade a grand jury to “indict a ham sandwich.” The data suggests...

Federal investigators are looking into an arson fire that burned the Missouri church where Michael Brown's father was baptized over the weekend. "This is a slow and painstaking process," said John Ham, a spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which is working with a local task force on the case. Flood Christian Church was torched Monday night after the announcement that a grand jury had voted not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown Jr.
