Two days before Black Fridaya day that has come to be identified with record-breaking gun salesthe Associated Press is claiming that surging sales on November 28 will put guns in the hands of the wrong people.
Even though the people who buy guns at retail stores go through a background check before doing so, the AP suggests the background check system we've had in place since the 1990s is too porous, allowing too many prohibited persons to buy a gun.
According to the AP, "512 gun sales a day" take place to people who shouldn't be able to buy a gun yet are able to do so by slipping through the cracks of our current background check system. The AP does not provide specifics on why these particular 512 persons ought to be barred from owning a gun, they simply say the problem exists because of a dearth of information due to states' tardiness in updating the criminal and mental records accessed by the FBI during a background check.
Later in the column, they list "ten factors" that "disqualify gun purchasers," but that was long after the opening sentence focused on "512 gun sales a day" that shouldn't happen....

Some real good research there. /s
Liberals hate the free market.
They want government to decide how much and when we can buy.
On a note of good news, California one gun buy a month law has been declared unconstitutional.
Its none of the government’s business to decide how much self protection I might need.
Any private ownership of guns puts them in the wrong hands according to the so called media elite. They just hate it when the constitution means something, or the 2nd amendment anyway.
It’s the seriousness of the charge that matters, not any facts or evidence.
I wonder what kind of Brack Friday Bunduru companies like Springfield and S&W would have.

Yup.
How about we pass a law making newspapers or cable news broadcasts free?
They wouldn’t like it but they can sit there and judge the rest of us.
Their chutzpah knows no bounds.
What’s amusing is they don’t trust cops with guns when they shoot blacks.
After all, they kept telling us for years only cops and military people should be trusted with lethal weapons.
If they want to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people, they can start with their belief the elites know best.
how much preparation did the authorities have in Ferguson for that riot?
I would say that what it was an exotic level of preparation. They had an outlandish amount of information regarding the situation there and yet how much did they protect the citizenry? they barely did anything beyond protecting the PD and FD.
what would their performance be like in a completely unforeseen emergency, hmmm...?
any person after Ferguson who did not go out and buy a gun would be a complete slobbering fool.
“How about we pass a law making newspapers or cable news broadcasts free?”
I love it! Yeah, we can call the news a public utility, sort of like the Internet. That’s certainly enough justification, in liberal minds, to regulate, tax, and subsidize it (for the poor and needy of course).
Ditto
512 gun sales each and every day. Oh brother...
they somehow find abortion rights in there, but not self-defense rights (ie 2a).
As far as I know the biggest entity allowing prohibited persons to buy guns is Lord Foul and holdups justus department.
What a bunch of sobby cranks. FUAP!
Amen!
Let’s hear the AP argue about keeping votes out of the wrong hands for a change....
St. Louis County has 90 incorporated and 10 unincorporated areas. The St. Louis Metro region has 3 million people. Ferguson has 20,000. Any of those municipalities are with in a quick 15 to 30 minute drive. Ferguson could have been totally shut down, and the rioters could have popped up elsewhere.
So there were a hundred municipalities, millions of people, and hundreds of target rich environments that needed to be protected. When all of this is over, the County Police Chief calling the shots, and his Police officers can all go home, and leave the people and officials in Ferguson to clean up the mess.
I heard County Chief Belmar state himself on live TV, that he told the police: Guys, lets just let them go. Treat it like any other large crowd situation(think sporting events or street festivals). Belmar did not explain why he essentially had the force stand down. Pressure from someone or some other reason - it's not known.
Fact is, even if every person in Ferguson could vote and voted against him, it wouldn't make a difference, because that vote is tiny compared to the larger STL County area. Besides, who are they going to vote for? Do Blacks usually vote for a Republican?
My opinion is that the announcement should not have come after dark. A curfew should have been issued ahead of time, and the National Guard should have been staged just as they were on Tuesday night.
If no curfew, the orders should have been: At the first rock, bottle whatever thrown, the first window smashed, arrests will be made and the unlawful assembly disbursed and you will go home or be arrested. And that will happen even if it takes 10,000 officers and guardsmen. JMHO For what it's worth, there was some sporadic activity in some of the adjoining municipalities, but cars were quickly dispatched to shut it down.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
They probably had their hands tied by the Gov or someone else who realized the situation got out of had too late before allowing them to get involved.
