A botnet which experts believe sent out 18% of the world's spam email has been shut down, a security firm said.Grum's control servers were mainly based in Panama, Russia and Ukraine. Security company FireEye and spam-tracking service SpamHaus worked with local internet service providers (ISPs) to shut down the illegal network. A botnet is a network of computers that has been hijacked by cybercriminals, usually by using malware. "Grum's takedown resulted from the efforts of many individuals," wrote Atif Mushtaq, a security researcher with FireEye. "This collaboration is sending a strong message to all the spammers: Stop sending us...
  • What a difference a day makes: Egypt and Libya react to US deaths

Despite being neighbors, Egypt and Libya’s reaction to the US embassy deaths, announced yesterday, could not have been more different. In Cairo there were more clashes reported today and the Muslim Brotherhood put out a statement many viewed as anti-American. By contrast, Libyans took to the streets of Benghazi in counter-protest and flooded Facebook with messages in support of the US. The attacks on the US embassies in Cairo and Benghazi on Tuesday night followed news of the release of a controversial anti-Islam movie about the Prophet Muhammad. The amateurish looking film depicts the Prophet as a homosexual, pedophile and...

Bring Out the Best Today's Scripture …love is kind… 1 Corinthians 13:4, NIV Today's Word from Joel and Victoria One translation of today’s simple verse says that “love looks for a way to be constructive.” In other words, love looks for ways to improve someone else’s life. Love brings out the best in other people. Don’t just get up in the morning thinking about yourself or how you can make your own life better. Think about how you can make someone else’s life better. Ask yourself, “Who can I encourage today?” “Who can I build up?” You have something...

After Surrender— Then What? "I have finished the work which You have given Me to do" —John 17:4 True surrender is not simply surrender of our external life but surrender of our will— and once that is done, surrender is complete. The greatest crisis we ever face is the surrender of our will. Yet God never forces a person’s will into surrender, and He never begs. He patiently waits until that person willingly yields to Him. And once that battle has been fought, it never needs to be fought again.Surrender for Deliverance. “Come to Me . . . and...

By improperly causing a hearing to be removed from the court calendar, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives prevented a Federal Firearms Licensee from seeking discovery crucial to its case for a scheduled revocation hearing, a motion filed on behalf of Brink’s, Incorporated, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas at Dallas asserted Monday. Requesting either “to reinstate [the court] hearing date or, in the alternative, to reschedule [the] FFL revocation hearing,” the motion points out it “serves as Brink’s only opportunity to obtain discovery for the purposes of defending its license.” This...

Obama's clean war in Libya, the one that was won by lying to the UN and then dropping bombs and flying away while ragged bands of fighters whittled away what was left of the decrepit Libyan military, doesn't look so clean anymore. The bloodless victory has seen its first blood shed as those same fighters coddled and protected by American jets and drones tore into the temporary consulate set up to liaise with the rebels, set it on fire and dragged the body of the ambassador who had helped their rebellion succeed through the streets while posing for snapshots with...

PINELLAS PARK — The man shot by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper Monday morning at a Pinellas Park cemetery was the cemetery's owner — a Tampa man who lives in a 7,000-square-foot home, has no criminal history and has held a concealed-weapons permit. Clifford F. Work remained hospitalized in fair condition Tuesday at Bayfront Medical Center as questions remained about why Trooper Daniel Cole, a 13-year FHP veteran, shot the 48-year-old businessman. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, which is the latest in a string of incidents throughout Cole's career in which his actions have been...

They are murderers and, yes, they are Muslim murderers. When President Jefferson decided to send a naval expedition to Tripoli to rescue American seamen and punish the Barbary pirates, the opposition to him was practical: did we have the naval vessels and if not did we want to raise taxes to pay for them? Did we have allies with whom to embark on such a difficult campaign? Assuming success, what were we supposed to do next to insure the pirates did not lie low, regroup, begin their trade as soon as we looked the other way? The third president's answer...

The conventional wisdom emerged in Washington almost immediately on Wednesday: Mitt Romney's handling of the violence in Egypt and Libya was a disaster. "The comments were a big mistake, and the decision to double down on them was an even bigger mistake," Steve Schmidt, senior campaign strategist to Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, told CBS News. "There are legitimate criticisms to be made but you foreclose on your ability to make them when you try to score easy political points. And the American people, when the country is attacked, whether they're a Republican or Democrat or independent, want to...

An actress in the movie about the Prophet Muhammad that sparked outrage across the Middle East on Tuesday and Wednesday said she will sue the filmmaker and that the film's script, titled "Desert Warriors," focused on life 2,000 years ago. Cindy Lee Garcia told Gawker that she called the film's writer and director, who has now gone into hiding, when she saw the protests and his quotes in the media. "'Why did you do this?' and he said, 'I'm tired of radical Islamists killing each other. Let other actors know it's not their fault,'" she told Gawker. "I'm going to...

One would have to be living in a closet today not to see the changing tide in the Middle East region of the world. Sadly, many of the leftist persuasion in the West truly believe that all of these public uprisings are wonderful and that only good can come from them. These - as usual - have drunk the demonic kool-aid and have deceived themselves into believing that these up risings will bring peace and “democracy” into this violent and unstable region of the world (2 Cor. 4:2-4, Eph 2:2-3, 6:12). With the death of Muammur Kaddafi, his vacuum is...

A timeline of yesterday's events shows that it took the Obama administration 16 hours to disavow a statement posted on the US Embassy in Cairo website. It appears that the administration's failure to correct the embassy and the doubling down by embassy staff 13 hours after the statement was published prompted Mitt Romney's curt comments about the administration's response. Here is a partial timeline of events. All times are Eastern Standard Time (EST), 6 hours earlier than Cairo time. 5:50AM - Cairo Embassy publishes a statement on its website which rejects those who "abuse" free speech. El Paso, TX--Parents of some elementary school students are furious over a class assignment. They said children were asked to draw images depicting the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Parents said the teacher gave specific instructions to fourth-graders at Hughey Elementary in central El Paso. "'We had to draw the boom cloud, the planes hitting, and people jumping out of the windows,'" said Ivie Gremillion. Those are the directions Gremillion said her daughter was given on Monday. The drawing includes people jumping out of burning buildings yelling, "Help," and "I love you," and another student's drawing has one stick figure saying...

America's love affair with bacon is being put to the test, with one man traveling across the U.S. using only bacon as money in exchange for food, gas and lodging. "I need your help. I'm driving from NY to LA with no cash and no cards — just a trailer full of Butcher Thick Cut Bacon to barter with you for food, lodging and everything else I need," actor Josh Sankey writes on his website. "It's all to find out if America loves this bacon as much as money!" Still, there's one major caveat: actor Josh Sankey isn't just doing...
