It’s the season for graduation presents, and this year, the Star Tribune is offering an unusual gift to Minnesota’s entire graduating high school Class of 2023: a free, one-year digital subscription. The new initiative, which was first announced in late April, is the latest experiment of the Star Tribune’s News in Education program. Just before the 2020 presidential election, the Star Tribune expanded that program to offer free digital subscriptions to all Minnesota school districts with the goal of strengthening news literacy through access.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is being blasted online for releasing biographical information of all twelve jurors plus two alternates in the Derek Chauvin trial in the killing of George Floyd. Without naming the jurors, reporters Paul Walsh and Hannah Sayle on Tuesday published enough details about their lives, internet sleuths and local snoops may be able to figure out who they are.

Minneapolis Star Tribune: Here's what guns, COVID have in common (barf alert)

t the time of this writing, COVID-19 is the leading cause of death in the United States. There is ample reason to hope that the vaccines now beginning to arrive will soon knock the coronavirus off that morbid perch. Nothing will bring back the loved ones we’ve lost to the pandemic, but at least we’ll be worrying about our old familiar foes — heart disease, for example, and cancer. And guns. Gun violence remains one of the more potent threats to U.S. public health. Firearms play a role in most of the murders committed in the United States each year,...

VIDEO In one of the most hilarious cases in the history of journalism in the mistimed story department, the Minneapolis Star Tribune published an article about how questioning the integrity of mail-in voting is disinformation...just hours after the Project Veritas video was uploaded that showed the massive mail-in voting FRAUD going on in the Minneapolis area.

KEVIN ROCHE: MY STRUGGLE WITH THE STAR TRIBUNE (Great article on the virus)

The real tragedy is that all these efforts to completely suppress the virus are likely futile. Like the influenza virus, coronaviruses, including this variant, are here to stay. While it makes sense to attempt to limit the surge in demand on the health system, continued suppression efforts only spread the economic pain out further and further, without creating any meaningful overall decline in the eventual total number of illnesses and deaths. A far more reasonable strategy, and one which was used with swine flu, would be to mitigate the effects, protect the most vulnerable but not intentionally inflict massive economic...

Star Tribune sues to unseal U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison's divorce records

The Star Tribune has joined a legal effort to unseal the divorce records of U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, the Democratic candidate for attorney general. Ellison and his ex-wife, Kim Ellison, divorced in 2012. The related records have been sealed, so the public cannot access the information. The Star Tribune’s motion to intervene and unseal the records follows a similar action by Alpha News, a right-leaning online news and opinion site. The efforts follow allegations by Ellison’s ex-girlfriend, Karen Monahan, that Ellison domestically abused her in 2016. He has denied the allegation repeatedly, and Monahan has continued to press her case...

Texas Tribune Offers Sad Turnout News for Lone Star State Democrats

My NewsBusters colleague Tom Blumer has pointed out how old media outlets have failed to report on the stunning shift in the Reuters/Ipsos poll showing the midterm election choices swinging towards the Republicans. Not only is much of the mainstream media ignoring polls showing this shift they are also failing to report on evidence on the ground in elections themselves that enthusiasm for the Democrats is waning. One such significant bit of evidence occurred in the recent Texas primary runoff elections in which Democrat turnout hit a record low. This was reported by the Texas Tribune, normally a liberal cheerleader for...

The Star Tribune's first election year poll is complete and, all things considered, it was a good series of results for Minnesota Republicans. President Donald Trump's job approval came in at 45 percent. His 2016 Minnesota tally: 44.9 percent. Which means after one of the most tumultuous first years in recent presidential history, if Trump lost supporters here, he must have gained an equal number. He was especially strong in the suburbs and in greater Minnesota, which could mean help for Republicans like U.S. Rep. Jason Lewis and GOP state lawmakers in the suburbs where Trump's support remains strong. It...

Full Title: Minneapolis Star Tribune Blames 'Anti-Muslim Tensions' for St. Cloud Mass Stabbing by 'Soldier of the Islamic State' Just hours after a young Somali immigrant stabbed nine people at a shopping mall in St. Cloud, a mid-sized town in central Minnesota, the far-Left Minneapolis Star Tribune published an article hinting that the suspect may have been inspired by "anti-Muslim tensions." The article was later scrubbed and replaced with a new article that directly raised the question of whether the attack by Dahir Adan was motivated by previous anti-Muslim incidents in the city. ..... What a sweet story. A local struggling mom writes a letter to the President and she gets not only a lunch meeting with him but later gets featured in his State Of The Union speech. A very touching story about a regular woman...who "coincidentally" was a Democrat operative. However, the Minneapolis Star Tribune very "mysteriously" left this very important fact out of the story about her written by Allison Sherry. This prominent background fact was not exactly hidden from view. Ms Sherry could have googled the woman in question, Rebekah Erler, and found a Reuters artcle from last June that...

Minneapolis Star Tribune Surprisingly Critical of Al Franken

The Minneapolis Star Tribune had a reputation for being so far left that they used to be referred to as the Red Star Trubune. Therefore it was somewhat surprising that the Star Tribune yesterday published an article that was not only somewhat critical of Franken but sounded some upbeat notes for his campaign opponent, Mike McFadden. This is in stark contrast to an article early this month in the University of Minnesota student newspaper, the Minnesota Daily, which lavished praise upon Franken despite the fact he backed out of a campus debate and barely a word about McFadden who agreed...
