Music is great but the cross graphic is disconcerting.

Best Christian music came before the 20th century stretching from Gregorian chants all the way to the spiritual hymns of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. All this modern acoustic guitar, open my eyes to your heart lord, music is a bit too hippy dippy for me.

Or as I call them, “Jesus is My Boyfriend” songs.

Have you ever hear Anonymous 4? The first time I heard them I was driving on a trip across the country, and an NPR station was playing their 11,000 Virgins cd. I actually pulled off the road to listen to it for a while, it was so hauntingly beautiful.

I personally love the Bach cantatas, and Russian orthodox chants.

Modern Christian music seems too “poppy” or something that you would hear on an 80s televangelist show.

Never heard but I will check them out.

You should also check out the Innocence Mission, good Christian band... one of the few:

I love the Christian songs from the chants to comtempory Christian, and NO it is not all about “Jesus is my boyfriend.”

Maybe to you, but some of us find incredible comfort in modern Christian music. In a time of deep distress casting crowns song “Praise you in this storm” spoke to my heart. There are countless others - dont throw the good out with the bad. And yes, I’m a Jesus Freak, and love the song.

I appreciate that you like what you like and I get it. I personally fins contemporary Christian music blaise, cookie cutter, and uninspiring. Now, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” that is a an inspiring piece of Christian music.

If you like the contemporary stuff though, check out the Innocence Mission. I posted a link above.

None of that seems very traditional. This is traditional Christian music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC6OKIYXBxQ

Here’s modern Christian music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgFyokgV1Ls

Can’t tell the difference between “traditional” and “modern” (other than the regional difference in style)?

EXACTLY!

I like it all..... My favorite in Church is when we sing contemporary music with the classic hymns interwoven.

I’m Orthodox, so that could explain some of my disdain for modern Christian music :p
