Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

Prayer for Aborted Babies

How sweet!

Why have I not heard of any BRAVE Catholics barricading the doors of these murder chambers?

Doesn't ...what you've done for the least of them... ring any bells in the Catholic mind?

Referring to scripture as nonsense?? Not good.

An example of straying to the left or right is when Israel, after witnessing wonderous miracles and deliverance from God, decided Moses was dead as he entered the presence of God on Sinai. Not long after they crafted a golden idol. They thought they were honoring God as they thought Moses was dead.

But the golden calf was not a salvific instrument as Mary was, but which RCs think of far "above what is written." (cf. 1Cor. 4:6)

A better example is that of the bronze serpent in Num. 21, which the chastised Israelites were to look upon, it being a type of Christ, "that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived."

However, true to form and the proclivity of man seen in the unScriptural "hyperdulia" of the Mary of Catholicism, they ended up burning incense to this salvific instrument, which is never to be done to any created being:

He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. (2 Kings 18:4)

Likewise did pagans do to the only Queen of Heaven in Scripture:

But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. (Jeremiah 44:17)

Likewise does Rome do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of her own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto Mary, among many other things .

Incense represents and prayerful devotion, and nowhere does any believer ever pray to anyone else in Heaven but the Lord. The fact that souls prayed to the Lord Jesus (1Cor. 1:2) testifies to His deity, and who is the only heavenly intercessor btwn God the Father and man. (1Tim. 2:5)

Incense represents and prayerful devotion, and nowhere does any believer ever pray to anyone else in Heaven but the Lord. The Lord's own instructions on how to pray teach us to address the Father, not "our Mother" but "our Father," to whom also the Spirit within us cries, "Abba, Father," (Gal. 4:6) not "Mama, Mother."

It was before God the Father that Paul said he knelt and prayed to, (Eph. 3:14) and not Mary the demigoddess.

But Rome will do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of her own mouth, to her own damnation.

I'll use the Catholic way to answer that. Scripture doesn't say he died a second time. Maybe he was assumed.

Well I am glad to hear that. Many seem to feel or express that once they accept Jesus, they will always be saved.

Ephesians 1:13-14 tells us we've been sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise who is given as a pledge of our inheritence, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.

The Greek word, ἀρραβών, means earnest money, a large part of the payment given in advance as a security that the whole will be paid afterwards.

No where in the NT does it ever say we are unsealed. So yes, we are always saved.

I still don't know why so many feel the need to attack Catholic traditions and teachings.

The Catholic Church is full of saints and sinners, and our main focus is to spread the Word of our Lord so that we may all live a Christ like life and join Him in Heaven. It is difficult to always to the right thing and many fail.

On this there is no disagreement. Any church is full of saints who are sinners and the main focus should always be to spread the Word. I would add we should also be studying the Word as well.

Christian Churches are an offshoot of the Catholic Church that seem to have a different moral core than the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has followed the teachings of Christ, while other Christian churches accept some of the basics of the Catholic teachings but reject other teachings.

Interesting you segregate Christian churches from catholic ones. Are catholics not Christian? Sometimes I get the impression not by this terminology used by catholics.

It is questionable if the catholic church has remained true to the teachings of espoused in the Word. So many doctrines of catholicism cannot be justified by the Word. The immaculate conception is one. Catholic apologists admit there is ZERO scriptural support for this belief....yet it persists.....why?

As an example, The Catholic Church honors and venerates The Blessed Mother as a special human without sin and servant and obedient to God. We pray to her to ask for her help and to intercede with her son and our Lord. Yet many here accuse the Catholic Church of raising her to the level of God and accuse us of false worship. They are unwilling to accept the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Here is where the disagreement begins.

The title you use, The Blessed Mother is not a Biblical title. It is a twist of the Word by the catholic church to elevate Mary to something not accorded in the Bible.

We are not to pray to Mary. We have no Biblical teaching or example to pray to Mary or that Mary can hear or respond to our prayers.

We do have the Biblical teaching and example of praying to God however. He does hear and answer our prayers.

The catholic church has raised her to a level equal to Christ. The claim by popes that Mary is a mediatrix and co-redeemer shows this. Pople Leo XIII has said Mary is at the highest summit in Heaven. He also said that the catholic church places ALL their hope in Mary.

Were you aware there is currently an attempt to have a fifth marian dogma proclaimed that will officially declare mary to be Co-Redemtrix?

Right now the votes aren't there for it....but it's coming.

You are correct...Christians are unwilling to accept the man-made catholic teaching on Mary. They are a lie and from the pit.

let's see now, we have a 2,014 year old body of Christ and we have wikipedia....wonder which I'll choose as my source of information...

And it's WIKI that let's us know about these Vicars of Jesus Christ...

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

You obviously don't look very closely at who posts the vast majority of Religion Forum threads. I wonder how you can miss all the intentionally provocative threads posted BY Roman Catholics disparaging the beliefs of "Protestants" and extolling their own superior and elitist religion that ARE almost dai

That is obvious, but like liberals, all most RCs see are the refutations posted in response. But yet they seems compelled to post more, so let them. While grievous, by the grace of God it has served to expose the fallacious nature of Rome and RC apologetics. May we find more grace in His site to do so.

they'd better not be black....the dead black thug in Missouri only laid in the street for a few hours and all hell broke loose...

It could be worse...

"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind.

The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings.

This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the 'servant of servants', and they will be, until that curse is removed."

Brigham Young-President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1844-1877- Extract from Journal of Discourses.

Here are two examples from their 'other testament', the Book of Mormon.

2 Nephi 5: 21 'And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.'

Alma 3: 6 'And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.'

August 27, 1954 in an address at Brigham Young University (BYU), Mormon Elder, Mark E Peterson, in speaking to a convention of teachers of religion at the college level, said:

"The discussion on civil rights, especially over the last 20 years, has drawn some very sharp lines. It has blinded the thinking of some of our own people, I believe. They have allowed their political affiliations to color their thinking to some extent.I think I have read enough to give you an idea of what the Negro is after."

"He is not just seeking the opportunity of sitting down in a cafe where white people eat. He isn't just trying to ride on the same streetcar or the same Pullman car with white people. It isn't that he just desires to go to the same theater as the white people. From this, and other interviews I have read, it appears that the Negro seeks absorption with the white race. He will not be satisfied until he achieves it by intermarriage."

"That is his objective and we must face it. We must not allow our feelings to carry us away, nor must we feel so sorry for Negroes that we will open our arms and embrace them with everything we have. Remember the little statement that we used to say about sin, 'First we pity, then endure, then embrace'...."

(Rosa Parks would have probably told Petersen under which wheel of the bus he should go sit.)

1967, (then) Mormon President Ezra Taft Benson said,

"The Communist program for revolution in America has been in progress for many years and is far advanced. First of all, we must not place the blame upon Negroes. They are merely the unfortunate group that has been selected by professional Communist agitators to be used as the primary source of cannon fodder."

We are told that on June 8, 1978, it was 'revealed' to the then president, Spencer Kimball, that people of color could now gain entry into the priesthood.

According to the church, Kimball spent many long hours petitioning God, begging him to give worthy black people the priesthood. God finally relented.

Sometime before the 'revelation' came to chief 'Prophet' Spencer Kimball in June 1978, General Authority, Bruce R McConkie had said:

"The Blacks are denied the Priesthood; under no circumstances can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty.

The Negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain blessings are concerned, particularly the priesthood and the temple blessings that flow there from, but this inequality is not of man's origin, it is the Lord's doings."

(Mormon Doctrine, pp. 526-527).

When Mormon 'Apostle' Mark E Petersen spoke on 'Race Problems- As they affect the Church' at the BYU campus in 1954, the following was also said:

"...if the negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory."

When Mormon 'Prophet' and second President of the Church, Brigham Young, spoke in 1863 the following was also said:

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God is death on the spot. This will always be so."

(Journal of Discourses, Vo. 10, p. 110)

Yeah; Native Americans are althroughout the Book of MORMON; too.

“I saw a striking contrast in the progress of the Indian people today ... they are fast becoming a white and delightsome people.... For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised.... The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.

At one meeting a father and mother and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl-sixteen-sitting between the dark father and mother, and it was evident she was several shades lighter than her parents—on the same reservation, in the same hogan, subject to the same sun and wind and weather.... These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and to delightsomeness.

One white elder jokingly said that he and his companion were donating blood regularly to the hospital in the hope that the process might be accelerated.

(Improvement Era, December 1960, pp.922-23). (p. 209)
