Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

The One Sacrifice of Christ on Golgotha hill.

I'm gratefully aware of that once-for-all-time event but I've been asking what do YOU mean by a sacrifice conducted during a Roman Catholic Mass. Is it like a remembrance of what Jesus did for us or is more of a re-creation of his sacrifice, like in a play? What is it to you?

These verses explain what the Catholic Church teaches: that men have a tendency to sin and nearly all sin. But some do not sin: Christ Himself, Mary, most likely St. John the Baptist, Noah, children before reaching the age of reason, mentally ill...

Psalm 14 is by the way the psalm that St. Paul quotes in Romans 3. The next psalm describes men “without blemish”. The bible simply does not teach that all men have sinned without exception.

To keep this post in context, I repost the prayer in question.

The Morning Consecration to Mary

My Queen, My Mother, I offer myself entirely to thee.

And to show my devotion to thee,

I offer thee this day, my eyes,

my ears, my mouth, my heart,

my whole being without reserve.

Wherefore, good Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, guard me as thy property and possession.

We now join our conversation. Annalex began with:

EALGEONE: committing everything about themselves entirely to Mary. This leaves no room for Christ whatsoever.

ANNALEX: This prayer only demonstrates that the Catholic faithful is not confused between human nature of Mary, whom he loves and divine properties of Christ Whom he worships. He also probably is not thinking of himself as a heap of meat and bones that cannot be committed to two people entirely at the same time.

Deuteronomy 6:5

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Luke 10:27

And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

The “sacrifice conducted during a Roman Catholic Mass” is the one Sacrifice of Christ on Golgotha hill. There is no other. It is not a mere remembrance nor recreation of any kind. When we want to see recreations and remembrances we go to theaters not to Church.

Jesus offered the sacrifice of himself for you

Correct. That is the Sacrifice of the Mass.

You can't have it both ways...You just claimed that it was your religion that offered the Sacrifice...YOU nailed Jesus to the Cross...

I stand by my post; that you for re-posting it. I might add that the apparent logical difficulty disappears completely if you recognize the fact that Mary will lead one devoted to her to Christ, as she has many.

No, “my religion” applies the One Sacrifice of the Cross to my soul so that I may be saved.

That is neither a reasonable or a sensible response to give.

Are you saying Roman Catholics continuously keeps Jesus on the Cross as a permanent literal forever-recurring sacrifice which during a Mass...does something?

And would you please try to give a more coherent answer this time?

“Huh? Christ had another mother, heavenly?”

What part of “God never called her that,” is unclear?

He could have called her any of the false titles used today, but chose not to do it.

Why add things to Mary that God never did?

Let’s honor and celebrate and give her honor as God’s gracious choice.
Let’s not try to pump her up into a demigod.

No, “my religion” applies the One Sacrifice of the Cross to my soul so that I may be saved.

How often must this application take place? Why the need for repetitions?

And are you aware that the phrase "the One Sacrifice of the Cross" gives no glory to the name of Lord Jesus Christ?

Respectfully....you need to get out of the catholic church if that is what they are teaching you. Multiple verses that don't suggest men have a tendency to sin. These verses confirm men sin....and that all have...except Christ.

But, let's examine some of these examples you cite as maybe not sinning.

Noah

The bible records Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. He was righteous and blameless in his time. However in Genesis 9:21 the Bible notes Noah got drunk. So Noah sinned.

John 1:29

...."Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

Sure sounds like John understood the world was full of sinners.

Mary

Luke 1:46-47

My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave.

Mary understood she needed a Savior and that was going to be her Son....Jesus Christ.

Ever seen small kids? Ask any parent...they'll tell you the kiddies are sinners.

The Bible is clear on this...All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

John 6:65

And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me, unless it has been granted him from the Father."

You are responsible for YOUR actions. I, for mine. Believe as you wish. Show respect for Our Lady according to your beliefs; we Catholics do so according to our own Faith.
