Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

>Leo XIII has said Mary is at the highest summit in Heaven. He also said that the catholic church places ALL their hope in Mary.<

Why shouldn't Mary be at the summit with he son Jesus? Why shouldn't the Catholic Church place all their hope in the Blessed Mother of God to help us? Mary is the Mother of the Church. That doesn't mean that the Church has made her a God. Why do you disrespect her so much? I feel that this disrespect is the work of Satan and as such is evil.M/i>

See, you've already had to add a qualifier to the statement to make it sound palatable. The pope did not say that. You had to insert it. There is nothing in Scripture that can point to Mary being in this lofty position. In John's account in Revelation we see God on the throne, Jesus at His right, the 24 elders, angels....no mention of Mary who your pope claims is at the "highest summit" in Heaven. And now you have to resort to word games to explain/justify this false teaching.

M Perhaps you have heard about Fatima and Lourdes?

Yes I've heard of those.

Are you familiar with all of this encounter?

In an interview between Sister Lucy (the 10-year-old shepherd girl who was among the three children who saw the apparitions in 1917) and a Father Fuentes. The interview took place in 1957. In this interview focusing on Fatima and its message, Sister Lucy says the following

"The second reason is because She said to my cousins as well as to myself, that God is giving two last remedies to the world. They are the Holy Rosary and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These are the last two remedies which signify that there will be no others.

No mention of repentance and faith in Christ. Have you heard of this?

2 Corinthians 11:13-15

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds..

Paul had the correct remedies for the world.

Acts 16:28-34

And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, 30and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house. 33And he took them that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he was baptized, he and all his household. 34And he brought them into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, having believed in God with his whole household.

Peter had the answer also! Acts 2:37-42

Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39“For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” 41So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. 42They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Is your attack on Mary part of your Church dogma or just personal?

If pointing out false teachings is an attack in your worldview, so be it.

As a good catholic...do you say/have you said this prayer?

The Morning Consecration to Mary

My Queen, My Mother, I offer myself entirely to thee.

And to show my devotion to thee,

I offer thee this day, my eyes,

my ears, my mouth, my heart,

my whole being without reserve.

Wherefore, good Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, guard me as thy property and possession.

Would you offer this prayer if you changed Mary to: Baal, Allah, Buddah, Zeus, Apollo...Satan.

See the impact?

I believe that there are those interested in legitimate interdenominational discussion and dialogue. That can make for an interesting, informative discussion, which can help in our understanding of one another as followers of Christ, in genuine Christian charity.

Some, however are not; as in any religious discussion, so are there those present within this one. "By their fruits you shall know them."

God's peace be to all!

now there is a strange protestant stirring of the pot...everyone leaves Heaven......everyone leaves eternal bliss for what???????

The interesting thing about your catechism is that it teaches you everything your religion wants you to know...

You guys have no idea what's really in that bible...

Act_1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
Act 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

You might notice that those Jews expected Jesus to set up a new kingdom...You also might notice that Jesus did not deny it

The Jews know plenty that the Catholic religion doesn't know of the scriptures...The Old Testament has nothing to do with Christianity...The entire O.T. has to do with God's chosen people living in a physical kingdom with God as the reigning King...

That's why over in Israel right now the descendants of Esau are trying to run the Jews into the sea...That's why right now over in Israel they are making plans and pre-fabbing the new Temple, ready to be put in place...That's why over in Israel right now they claim to have a way to discern who is from the tribe of Levi and this is why right now over in Israel they are currently training up young men of the tribe of Levi as priests for the new Temple...

Jesus IS coming back at the 2nd Coming of Jesus and he ain't leaving...And he's not going to set up his temple in Italy...And that is why for a long time now your Catholic religion has been trying to get control over the Temple Mount and the other religious sites in Israel...

Your popes and the Izlamists know what the bible says about Israel but they don't want you to know...So they don't tell you...

“ROME teaches that many important things are NOT found in the bible...”

What is far more true is that Rome ignores most of the important things in the Bible...

There are warnings about worship of idols. Mary and the saints are not idols but real people and we venerate them in full understanding that they are saints with Christ and because of Christ. We do not worship them. We worship Him to Whom we offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It is not complicated.

That is so anti-biblical...Your religion may be built upon a handful of pilfered passages from scripture but the truth of the scriptures and your religion are foreign to each other...

You nor no man will ever offer Jesus as a sacrifice to God...Jesus offered the sacrifice of himself for you...What biblical ignorance...

Nothing in the teaching of the Holy Catholic Church contradicts the Holy Scripture.

EVERYTHING in the teaching of the Catholic religion contradicts scripture...We prove it day after day after day...

Drawing a parallel is one thing: comparing Catholic love, honor and trust for the Mother of Jesus to what you listed above?

I'm sorry, that remark, whether or not it is intended to be so, is an insult to Catholics and to the mother of Our (yours and my) Savior!

I pray that prayer every day. And not to any of those you mentioned above! I entrust myself to the Mother of Jesus, my Lord, as He was entrusted to her and to St. Joseph!

Remember of whom it is you are speaking: if you love Jesus, at least show respect to His mother for His sake!

Why shouldn't Mary be at the summit with he son Jesus? Why shouldn't the Catholic Church place all their hope in the Blessed Mother of God to help us?

Because God didn't leave a message for anyone, anywhere that Mary had the ability to help anyone with anything...And what did Jesus say???

Mat_11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

There is no Mary in that verse...

What you people apparently are ignorant of is the Trinity...Jesus doesn't provide comfort for his children...The Holy Spirit does...Jesus doesn't lead us into truth...The Holy spirit does...

Mary doesn't have a holy spirit that can comfort or lead anyone anywhere...The entire thing is a scheme...A fallacy...

You make my point. You know if you substitute one of those names you're pledging yourself completely to that false god.

I see no difference just because it's Mary's name. You've elevated Mary to something not accorded to her in the Bible.

Jesus calls us to love Him....not His mom.

Obviously these people don't waste their time thinking...apparently they just open some Catholic literature and copy and paste...

They claim Mary is above all the angels and saints...Yet, as you say, there is no mention of Mary in the book of Revelation in heaven...In Revelation, it is the angels who deliver prayers to Jesus, not Mary...Mary isn't there...

If by that you are suggesting we shouldn't correct error when we see it consider this.

Ezekiel 33:8 In My saying to the wicked, O wicked one -- thou dost surely die, And thou hast not spoken to warn the wicked from his way, He -- the wicked -- in his iniquity doth die, And his blood from thy hand I require.

It's a serious thing to see error and not speak up.

EALGEONE: Paul spent some time clearing up error. It occurred early in the Word. See Genesis 3 and Matthew when Satan tempted Christ for more details. A slight distortion of the Word is a favorite tactic of the enemy.

Imagine a spacehip on a trip to Mars....just a little deviation from course won't matter at first....but over the life of the trip they miss Mars.

So it is with the Word. A little misinterpretation here and there and then you've got a sinless Mary in contradiction of the Word.

Thank you....

As mentioned before we know there’s nothing in scripture where Jesus tells us to “venerate” his mother. Let alone make idols of the thousands sold early for monetary gain.

So much as the pagans did and why God is clear we are not to do as the pagans....but the catholic church cares not to listen to God regarding this....they make too much money selling this junk.

Of course, just like we have to answer for everything we do in our lives when we stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account to Him. That sin impedes our relationship with Him, will cost us rewards in heaven, but does not BREAK the relationship. We are still saved.

and that is EXACTLY why God created Purgatory...still saved but having to atone for our sins....you are right!!

And the Catholic Church has done a bang up job of deviating from the word of God. From Genesis through Revelation we find that the Catholic Church has changed it every so slightly to build their apostate organization.

Please show me where the Vatican is making statues. Show me a line item in a balance sheet where the sale of Vatican-made statues is.

You are confusing the vast sums going out to charities around the world with what you think is coming in. Do tell, in how many countries does your denomination have schools, hospitals, orphanages, hospices, and other social services? Please also tell me about relief services your church offers.

Do companies make religious items. Sure. They charge cost plus to stay in business. Do some individual parishes offer books and other religious items in a small store? Yes.

Now, many individual churches, as well denominations, do the same thing. Consider any mega church with its coffee bar, mini-mall, tape and cd selection, and other retail items.

While you continue to be off base about your oft-repeated and scurrilous charge of idol worship, you are now farther afield with your idol-selling scheme.

TC: and that is EXACTLY why God created Purgatory...still saved but having to atone for our sins....you are right!!

And the Word says:

Romans 4:4-8

Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.

5But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

6just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

7“BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED.

8“BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.

No purgatory....your sins are covered and will not be taken into account.

Next question please?
