An Israeli is visiting America when three men start berating him over the sinking of the Liberty. The men shower abuse upon him, ignoring his protests that the sinking was a tragic accident caused by the fog of war. Finally, the Israeli raises his eyes skyward.

"Oh, Lord! I know in my heart that the state you have given the Jewish people would never deliberately attack a friend and ally! Please, give these men a sign, and show that I am right!"

Thunder crashes! Lightning strikes! The clouds part, and a single sunbeam shines on the Israeli. A voice from the heavens booms "HE'S RIGHT!"

For a moment, the three men are taken aback. Then their leader shrugs.

"So? Now it's three to two."

"Israel has always said it had no idea the ship was American..." Is this so ? I cannot recall when Israel first voiced this claim, but was it not long after (i.e., years after ?) the incident occurred ? Can you tell me, for the record, when Israel first gave this explanation ? My recollection was that, at the time the incident took place, Israel did not make such a claim.

Notice the Liberty's large satelite dish. No Egyption boat had this sort of state of the art communications facilities.

This is a photo of an Israeli pre-attack reconnaissance pass, one of eight such aircraft which circled thirteen times. The surviving crew said the planes often passed directly overhead so low that they rattled the deck plating.

In the first photo, the ship is in port and would not be expected to fly its flag. The perspective of the second photo does not include the flag. Here is a photo of the damaged ship arriving in Malta with her American flag clearly visible. This is the same size flag that was displayed the morning of the attack. Notice also the very large TRSSCOMM moon relay antenna on the aft. The ship was clearly not Egyptian.

It's pretty reckless IMO to turn the Pentagon into a Jewish group-think tank.

I'm looking at a still shot and I can't tell. How can a fighter pilot tell when he is zooming in a 500 knots?

As you can see the recon aircraft is something in the class of a slow flying DC-3 which made multiple very close passes. The balance of the evidence supports the fact the attackers knew this was a U.S. ship.

If they knew, why were they talking about an Egyptian ship? The radio transmissions, now verified by the US government, supports the Israelis claim that they thought it was an Egyptian ship. There is NO evidence that the Israelis knew it was an American ship. No evidence at all. Only Monday Morning Quarterbacking (ie they should have known).
