Bump - very interesting. All the conspiratists over the years had screamed at Israel for lying about the attack, and for nefarious American supporters for not pursuing the issue.

Now I wonder what we still don't know about what the Liberty was really doing so quietly that the Israelis didn't know she was there.

"Israel has always said it had no idea the ship was American..." Is this so ? I cannot recall when Israel first voiced this claim, but was it not long after (i.e., years after ?) the incident occurred ? Can you tell me, for the record, when Israel first gave this explanation ? My recollection was that, at the time the incident took place, Israel did not make such a claim.

Notice the Liberty's large satelite dish. No Egyption boat had this sort of state of the art communications facilities.

This is a photo of an Israeli pre-attack reconnaissance pass, one of eight such aircraft which circled thirteen times. The surviving crew said the planes often passed directly overhead so low that they rattled the deck plating.

And Jason Pollard was jailed as a spy working for Israel. Is the Israeli state an ally of the US or not? If not, what the Hell are we doing in the Middle East at all?

Pardon me, but I asked in post #10, below, WHEN the Israelis first made the claim that the attack on the Liberty had been a mistake. Do you know ? Surely it is highly relevant to the vehement exchange of views in this forum to know the answer to my query. Do you not know the answer to my question ?
