A wallet containing nine coins from the period of Bar Kochva was discovered in a small cave at the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve on the eastern periphery of the Judean Desert.

Thrilled archaeologists reported that amongst the find, three coins were minted by Jewish authorities from the period of Bar Kochva,

One of the coins is made of silver and weighs 12 grams. This is only the second coin of its type discovered in Israel so far, reports Israel Radio.

The discovery was made by members of Bar Ilan University's Archaeology Institute in cooperation with researchers from the center for cave researchers from the Hebrew University.

Shimon Bar Kochva was the leader of the last and most successful Jewish rebellion against Roman imperial rule in Judea in the years 132-135 A.D. Bar Kochva led the rebellion to regain independence from the Romans, who had destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D.

Bar Kochva died in battle when the rebellion was defeated.

Ein Gedi had a large Jewish community during the Second Temple period.

I haven't been to a seder in so long. I think Ken (now 11) was an infant the last time. Too bad because he is missing a part of his heritage.
