A family in Florida drove into a major problem after buying a used electric vehicle: the replacement battery for their dead car wound up costing more than the used car was purchased for
She told the news outlet that the car stopped running after taking it to a repair shop, and the family eventually found out that the car's battery would need to be replaced.
The problem? A battery for the electric car costs $14,000, according to the news outlet.
Siwinski's grandfather stepped in to help out with the car problems because her father passed away in June due to colon cancer.
The Ford dealership had advised us that we could replace the battery," said her grandfather, Ray Siwinski. "It would only cost $14,000."
However, the family found out that there weren't any batteries of that type available anymore because the Ford model is discontinued.
"Then we found out the batteries aren't even available," Siwinski said. "So it didn't matter. They could cost twice as much and we still couldn't get it."

“Why not a spring powered car? I had toy cars which ran great by winding the spring”
________
“You may be onto something! Think of all the jobs for spring winders; all the health benefits of winding it yourself.”
Fat chance. It’ll be like the industrial springs in you garage...you’ll have to hire someone to do it for you, because winding the springs incorrectly could “KILL you”. Then they’ll charge you a $100 service call to do it.
It’s also a dream for the car companies just stop producing batteries or older models and bingo you have a new customer for new models
Keys on the floor to get it stolen with window open?
No need to do that. Just get bill Gates/Fraudci’s vaxxxxine booster ASAP. You’ll die of blood clot complications in the next year, your life insurance will pay for a new Tesla as you’ll beat the life insurance companies going broke due to vaxxxxxine caused deaths raising excess deaths into the stratosphere!
Here’s an even better idea. Adopt a kid, get them vaxxxxed and boosted and invest the EV car money in life insurance.
Do it now before the insurance companies figure it out. /sarc
Or you can buy stock in creamatory companies if you weren’t foolish enough to get the clot shots earlier.
This leaves the market open for those who can and will fill the void for out of warranty refurbish or remanufactured modules.
That there aren’t any yet tells me there is no market yet. EVs are not ready for prime time.
But they failed to mention how much money they’re saving on gasoline.
Disposable cars
The entire article was posted. Nothing more to read.
The spring can be wound up with a wind mill on roof of house. But may miss some work days on windless days.
-— Ford——
Ford is the problem. Ford EV’s and Ford are on an unstoppable downhill slide.
Flywheel power not good. Too many moving parts.
A spring driven car is simplicity exemplified.
Still one major problem. Many people have never spent more than a few thousand dollars for a used car. When cheap used cars become unavailable, 10-20% of the population will no longer be able to drive.
Easily, his best parody song.
Yep. That's usually the way it goes for me, too.
Take the car in to the shop to have the windshield wipers replaced, and the darn thing stops running. Apparently, the crankshaft warps, the transmission sticks in reverse, and the rear-end freezes up. The dealer says "those things just happen". That'll be $15,879 to repair. But, there's a $20 off coupon if you visit our website and click on the Service link.
In fact, an EV is the perfect "second car" in a household if all you will use it for is commuting to work or running errands locally. You don't even have to worry about knowing where the charging stations are as you will only be local and so you can just keep it plugged in at night at home while you sleep.
Of course, you will still have your primary combustion engine car for longer trips, overnight stays, driving in cold weather, etc.
Best of both worlds.
That said, I am in no way advocating the EV as a replacement for a ICE vehicle. In the current state, the EV is not ready for prime time. But as a supplemental "around town" vehicle, it can be very practical.
GTFO - rambling copy/paste troll POS.
I like that song.
I wonder what the cost of that display was.
“This has never happened in the history of the gasoline/diesel automobile.”
You have probably never owned an old Jaguar.
“ Electric cars are more of a status symbol then a practical way to get around.”
Owner of a 1 year old Ford Mach e here. That car is a great commuter vehicle. My daily drive is normally 50 miles or less, and that is 90% plus of my total driving. My EV is inexpensive to operate, even before $5 gasoline, and it is keeping my gasoline vehicles operational for a far longer time.
Short drives are the hardest on ICE vehicles. Sometimes you need a hammer, sometimes you need a screwdriver. Different tools for different jobs.
BTW, I just had my 10,000 mile service done. Tire rotation and State Inspection were the only things needed; not even an emissions sticker.
