A family in Florida drove into a major problem after buying a used electric vehicle: the replacement battery for their dead car wound up costing more than the used car was purchased for
She told the news outlet that the car stopped running after taking it to a repair shop, and the family eventually found out that the car's battery would need to be replaced.
The problem? A battery for the electric car costs $14,000, according to the news outlet.
Siwinski's grandfather stepped in to help out with the car problems because her father passed away in June due to colon cancer.
The Ford dealership had advised us that we could replace the battery," said her grandfather, Ray Siwinski. "It would only cost $14,000."
However, the family found out that there weren't any batteries of that type available anymore because the Ford model is discontinued.
"Then we found out the batteries aren't even available," Siwinski said. "So it didn't matter. They could cost twice as much and we still couldn't get it."

Why not a spring powered car? I had toy cars which ran great by winding the spring
in a few years if not already the big scam will be reselling electric cars with fake new batteries
Ten years? Pfft.
I had a ‘55 chevy for awhile. Some parts were specialty. But a suprising amount were still available on the shelves at NAPA. And I only got rid of it 4 years ago. I don’t think you will ever be able to say that about electrics.

I’m certain that it’s already happened. And the “made out of cardboard” Chinese knockoff factories are warming up in the on-deck circle...

Stupid sh!ts bought a battery powered car. No sympathy for them at all. Likewise no sympathy for the Texas dummies who bought Teslas and are now being told only to charge them at certain times. Battery cars are a scam to suck in fools who believe that fossil fuels are going to destroy the planet, fools who want to be “cool”, fools who think that they’re cheaper to operate than ICE vehicles, etc. BTW battery cars are mostly coal powered.
Try adding Ghostery and NoScripts....
Suckers!
GM 350s have no shortage of support.
[As well they should...]
“..a spring powered car?””
Both those and very high speed flywheel vehicles have had prototypes built and tested.
Performance was underwhelming.
The dealership is not required to stock the parts but the manufacturer is obligated to have parts for 10 years after they discontinue a model, and then after that if it was not a popular model they are not required.
Buy a trailer with a petro fuel powered generator connected to some power center ilo the current dead battery.
Success!
I think Ford sold the 9 inch rear axle tooling to someplace in South America where parts were produced for decades.
I guess you didn’t see the humor in his answer....lol...Slo joe is known to shoot from the hip.....sometimes with a 12 guage Double-barrelled shot gun even...../s
And guess whose effigy he put in the drivers seat.
I can imagine repair shops stealing the working batteries out of your EV and swapping it with one that is ready to fail.
Guess they Have to start whipping those black kids in Africa were mining lithium and get the prices down reasonable..
I didn’t know of any all electric Ford models that would be out of production. The Ford Focus Electric was poorly received and never sold more than 2,000 vehicles per year. It was a sub-compact car that cost $40,000, even though it was based on a standard Focus platform, and was not optimized for car batteries.
I made the mistake once of purchasing a used Ford Contour gasoline/CNG car back when gasoline was $4 in 2013 and I had a very long commute. The CNG option never worked.
Stay away from white elephants.
More precisely, they bought an older, used battery powered car. The old and used is why they ran into their problems.
