A family in Florida drove into a major problem after buying a used electric vehicle: the replacement battery for their dead car wound up costing more than the used car was purchased for
She told the news outlet that the car stopped running after taking it to a repair shop, and the family eventually found out that the car's battery would need to be replaced.
The problem? A battery for the electric car costs $14,000, according to the news outlet.
Siwinski's grandfather stepped in to help out with the car problems because her father passed away in June due to colon cancer.
The Ford dealership had advised us that we could replace the battery," said her grandfather, Ray Siwinski. "It would only cost $14,000."
However, the family found out that there weren't any batteries of that type available anymore because the Ford model is discontinued.
"Then we found out the batteries aren't even available," Siwinski said. "So it didn't matter. They could cost twice as much and we still couldn't get it."

“they’ll soon enough catch onto the fact that (unlike ICE vehicles) there is no economic advantage in purchasing used EV’s”
That’s true. But aren’t some states going to force people in to EVs after a certain date? I think that at some point in time, we’ll have no choice. Something has GOT to change to get legislators back to sanity.
“Why not a spring powered car?”
That could revive the Slinky industry. First Slinky dogs; now Slinky vehicles.
Typical going rate for new engine or transmission is in the $3000 range. You have have something very old/unique before there isn’t some viable option close to that price point.
And viable used engines or transmissions can be purchased for $500 to around $1000 for most vehicles.
All electric vehicles follow the Microsoft think of a lifetime subscription service.
Perfect! Love that.
Doesn't say anything about price.
I’m guessing no other outlet covered this.
Want an EV... Buy a golf cart.
Why not a spring powered car? I had toy cars which ran great by winding the spring
Gosh, you guys are always looking at the negative.
1) She helped some élite get rid of their end of life electric
2) Think of the energy she is now saving walking everywhere.
Or better yet: "Florida man bought a used battery"
“Batteries are a necessary evil. The technology sucks and apparently will continue to do so.”

EV’s we’re some of the first automobiles back around the turn of the twentieth century. And, their problem hasn’t changed; battery limited range and charging availability. And, the problem will continue through this century.
could’ve had a v8...
Side note; I live in Texas (God Bless Texas). Temp is forecast to hit 108 today. ERCOT is asking that EV drivers delay charging their vehicles till this evening 🙄…..
California intends to ban the sale of new ICE cars by 2035. Used cars will be allowed to used and sold. However if they want, they can make the cars uneconomical to operate by increasing gas taxes and applying very strict emissions standards that are next to impossible for older cars meet..
Time to set up the time-tested ‘my car was stolen’ scenario (park car in a remote area with window open and keys on floor) and when it disappears. your insurance company sends you money. Then you buy a nice ICE auto because hopefully you have learned your lesson.
The left worships electric vehicles, and wants to force all the gas-powered vehicles off the road. What that will mean for the folks is pretty obvious.
How the heck do people not ask these questions before buying a vehicle?!
Electric cars are gaslighting fakes what will never make a dent in American transportation.
They look good and can get you around town but oh that battery!
They are like the street lights that that run on solar panels - good for street lights but not going to juice up your tv to watch the J6 hearings or pbs shows on trangender cooking.
“A battery for the electric car costs $14,000, according to the news outlet. “
Looking longer term, part of the cost of replacement batteries is that each car manufacturer has a unique battery shape. How about a standardized shape? It’s like the battery powered tool situation. Each of the manufacturers has its own battery shape. I now have 3 chargers.
Speaking of battery powered tools, I wrote earlier of my experience buying a Stihl product. We have been bombarded by Stihl commercials that advertise “made in USA”. But the Stihl chainsaw pruner I ended up with says “Made in Germany”.
