If you’re browsing through Yelp reviews, you might come across a new consumer alert, warning you that a business has been “accused of racist behavior.”
“Recently, someone associated with this business was accused of racist behavior, resulting in an influx of people posting their views to this page,” the warning says.
There has been a substantial increase in the number of reviews mentioning Black-owned businesses, Yelp said in a news release Thursday. This summer, Yelp saw a 617% rise in such reviews compared with last year.
“While searches for Black-owned businesses surged on Yelp, so did the volume of reviews warning users of racist behavior at businesses,” the company said.
In the interest of the company’s “zero tolerance policy to racism,” it will now place a consumer alert on a business’s page “to caution people about businesses that may be associated with overtly racist actions.”

I thought it was common knowledge that Yelp is full of bad-faith reviews and smears.

Yelp is the saving grace of capitalism and consumer rights. I don’t care what anyone says. Without it holding businesses accountable, all customer service would be in the toilet.

YELP is useless. If I come across a business listing on yelp I leave a bad review or I click off of it and look for it another way. I hate YELP.
Aren’t there laws against slander and libel? Or did the left successfully wipe those off the books??

Reviews are a joke. There is a small cafe here that I go to frequently. I love the place. If I listened to the reviews I would never go near the place.
I have been in business for 40 years. I always say there is about 5% of the customers you just cannot please. They were born to bitch. If they can’t find something to be unhappy about they will make something up. Find out who they are and never deal with them again when possible.. .

Our local NBC news is constantly pushing viewers to frequent black owned businesses. That’s racist! In fact, the use of “diversity” today is racist.
