Governor Greg Abbott has a Pen, a Phone, and a Tank?

With the news of a Texas sheriff from Ector County using an armored military vehicle to SWAT-raid a peaceful, albeit armed, protest and arrest bar-owner Gabrielle Ellison, who dared to defy a business shutdown order, a public consensus on the use of executive orders is greatly needed.

What's in the Texas water?

Shelly Luther, a business-owner from Dallas, was recently sentenced to seven days in jail for opening her salon — and refusing to apologize to the court — in defiance of Governor Greg Abbott's executive shutdown order. At sentencing, Judge Eric Moyé accused Luther of being "selfish" even though the White House guidelines were followed at her workplace. Ms. Luther is quoted saying, "You have rights to feed your children and make income. And anyone that wants to take away those rights is wrong." Those words ring true.

In fairness to Gov. Abbott, he apparently didn't realize the manner in which violation of his executive orders would be enforced and punished. The governor immediately called for Luther's release and made statements condemning the judge for jailing Luther:

As I have made clear through prior pronouncements, jailing Texans for non-compliance with executive orders should always be the last available option. Compliance with executive orders during this pandemic is important to ensure public safety; however, surely there are less restrictive means to achieving that goal than jailing a Texas mother.

There are also less restrictive means to protect Texans from the virus than business shutdown orders.

Gov. Abbott's attorney general, Ken Paxton, was equally outraged. He sent a letter to the judge and reproved him for his "shameful abuse of judicial discretion."

All I know is that it’s going to take the people to get us out of this nightmare. Whatever you can do. Wherever you are. Resist these Totalitarian moves.

I wonder how history will treat the events of Spring 2020. Will the pontificators praise heroic government efforts that vanquished the contagion or will they shake their heads in dismay at how easy it was to get a once free people to surrender their rights?

Power goes to their heads. It is grandstanding combined with partisan politics that is such a mental disorder.

What a screwd up headline and byline!

First: there was NO 'tank'!

Second: the Governor had NOTHING to do with the 'raid'!!

At least it got rectified quickly.

Now; how does one disbar a judge in Texas???

Can a judge still practice from inside a Federal Prison?

There’s allot to this story that’s not being talked about. The open carry bunch was on social media prior to this bragging about facing off with the SO to defend the bar owner. All the big talk stopped the moment the SO showed up. Now they’re facing felony charged for having a weapon on bar premises. 6 loudmouth dumb asses.

The “tank” used by the Ector County sheriff appears to be some sort of military surplus wheeled fighting vehicle. It’s certainly not a tank, which is a tracked vehicle.

Regardless, this thing is a huge armored truck. It’s really too much for a sheriff’s department to have.

A sheriff using this on anyone is reminiscent of Tiananmen square. Military machinery and/or tactics is a sign of a repressive regime.

But it’s not without precedent. As tanks were actually used against our own veterans in 1932 where ex-soldiers were actually shot and killed.

Led by MacArthur, Eisenhower, Patton etc etc etc

in WASHDC

BTW if MSM can call ANYTHING with a long barrel and trigger an ‘assault weapon’ (in some respect they aren’t completely wrong - I can ‘assault’ you with my LCR 38 special) or anything higher than a VW Bug an SUV, calling an Armored PC a tank is in line with their idiocy)

Tanks were also used against the Branch Davidians.

If that’s a picture of the actual vehicle they used, it’s a Max Pro MRAP built by Navistar.

A long way from being a tank.

Here is a similar armored vehicle ‘protecting’ the state from an invasion of beachgoers who are not social distancing and are getting a suntan.

Yeah! Why bring in a few squad cars when
an armored vehicle is more intimidating!

OMG those are sheriffs, they are BOTH common victims of CV19 no wonder they are worried I suggest they both go on a diet, AND I am very surprised that sheriffs are behaving this way!! In CA. the sheriffs are the only ones running around with ANY common sense!! The regular LEO are behaving like dictators !!

Quite correct. Netflix has a movie on the subject that appears reasonably accurate.

The sad part of all of that fiasco is the person they wanted could have been peacefully arrested by the local sheriff anytime he left the compound. The children and most of the women were in essence actually massacred as they were both innocent and defenseless.
