Virginia Health Commissioner Says Schools Could Remain Closed For Two Years

Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam’s office said Friday that Phase One of reopening the state under federal guidelines could last as long as two years as the state battles the novel Wuhan coronavirus.

“I personally think Phase One will be a two year affair,” said State Health Commissioner Norman Oliver, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “There are a lot of people working on this, and I hope they prove me wrong, but I don’t see it happening in less than two years.”

Phase One under federal recommendations feature a limited reopening of some businesses with strict safety restrictions, social distancing requirements remaining in place, continued teleworking encouraged and face masks suggested in public. Nowhere do the guidelines mention reopening schools that will already remain closed for the rest of the academic year.

The Virginia health department tried to clarify Oliver’s comments on Saturday, saying the health commissioner misspoke when speculating that Phase One of recovery would last 24 months.

“Dr. Oliver intended to say that the Commonwealth will likely be dealing with COVID-19 in some form until a vaccine is produced, not that Phase One itself would take two years,” a department spokesperson told Newsradio WRVA.

That would produce a whole generation of children who are deficient in basic education.

We already have that, thanks to our government schools.

But Georgia is starting to open anyhow. At some point, the smart people are going to stop believing the horse crap.

This virus is somewhat more dangerous than a normal flu, but it’s NOT f***ing ebola folks. Some measures initially to prevent the medical system from being overrun like in Italy were probably warranted, but if we leave it to the hysterical hypochondriac old women (and old “women” with vestigial appendix-like “testicles”) in DC, we’ll never open.

They’ve found Trump’s achilles heel. He’s a Howard Hughes level germophobe, so they know they can get to him and cause him to throw reason out the window.

As long as nobody is getting paid for not working.

Cause I am pretty sure the administrators are not going to give up their fat paychecks while they sit around and do nothing.

It would probably be a net improvement in education...literally.

Yeah, right, close the schools. THAT’LL kill the virus.

Then either all the youth will be home-schooled, or grow up in a near-feral state, illiterate and largely undisciplined, kind of like “The Lord of the Flies”.

“It’s also probably good if the children aren’t going to the govt schools.”

The interesting and unintended consequence will likely be a huge new market for home schooling. Up until this point there wasn’t enough money for big companies to start developing and deploying learning modules online. But this provides the impetus so I expect to see advertisements soon for learn at home services on a subscription or outright purchase basis. Also, there will be new developments such as AI teachers to interface with students. By the time regular schools open again they will look antiquated by comparison. The only students attending them will be less motivated kids or discipline problems.

It’s about time parents took back the control over what their kids learn. Expect less about how to have anal sex and more about science and engineering.

I think the initial shutdown can be justified.

This was a new virus and nobody knew how bad it would be or not be. To err on the side of caution in that case was wisdom.

But we are well past the point where this can be justified any longer.

We know far more about this than we did last month and since the goal of not overwhelming the healthcare system was achieved, then this lock down needs to end.

We do still need to be prepared in the event of another surge of serious cases, but hospitals and the healthcare industry need to go ack to the business of providing again with the understanding by the patients that should it be necessary to cancel procedures because of demand by infected patients, then that’s going to happen.

But to let everything sit idle and lay off workers just in case? That’s ridiculous.

Let’s take advantage of this “dangerous opportunity.”

Throw the bums out each election.

Home school and do it well. Open your home to one other maybe liberal family whose kid is in need of an EDUCATION.

Churches work together to coordinate school for the kids on the down low of need be. Do not give your kids back to the government.

Don’t let this opportunity pass us by. Take the “weapon” liberals made and use it against them.

Cases in North Carolina. No reason to close schools. Maybe take out vulnerable teachers over the age of 50 and replace them with young substitutes for the time being.

And that is why the entire Federal Gov’t must be dispersed into the 50 states proportionate to their population (of citizens, of course). Aggregating the deep state into DC totally f’ed Maryland and Virginia.

I think the reason is to keep the parents from being able to work at an office even if their business opens. That and maybe not paying teachers to save money as their budgets implode.

Hey dumbass. If you close schools for two years you won’t have a ton of students, other than illegal aliens, coming back.
