Great stuff, thank you for posting this. Wonder if they’ll do something similar next April for Apollo 13’s 50th? Now THAT will be something to watch if they do it.

Astonishing. There is some real-time geekery fulfillment there, both in the people who created the website and those of us who get to watch it!

Thank you! Bookmarked for later - my young grandson is fascinated by all things space, but esp. the Apollo missions!

Was wondering ...

Was the audio channel(s) from the moon ship to earth, FM and Frequency Modulation ? Certainly weren’t AM transmissions.

Nothing digital was capable for audio back then.

Anybody know ?

That is a great claim. One that may have been used quite a bit.

Roosa from Apollo 14 had a claim that’s almost as cool in my mind.

His photos from the lunar command module showing the moon and earth at the same time are the only only taken by man.

Which means all the people from our known sphere, dead or alive, EXCEPT him are in the photo. That includes every astronaut.

To me that is a cool but very little known piece of trivia.

One favorite quote I remember is, "You've got a bunch of guys turning blue down here".

Didn't learn until much later how close they came to aborting the mission because Neil couldn't find a safe-looking landing spot until the very last possible moment. The guys in Houston, watching the fuel gauge fast approaching the critical point where there wouldn't be enough left to fly away again, were holding their breaths.

LOL

There is a similar site for Apollo 17. Just as neat.

I found a signed copy of Gene Kranz’s book ‘Failure is Not an Option’ in a thrift store a few years ago.

I love the part where Nixon picks up a primitive landline rotary dial phone & speaks to the Astronots in real time, with NO DELAY, from a quarter of a million miles away. What amazing 1960s technology, eh? It would be great if reporters of today had that astounding technology in 2019, so they would not have to wait to respond to questions asked of them by their studio anchors. 😜

LIstening to it live, I don't remember being aware of the significance of the maneuver, but I do remember the electrical feeling all over my skin and suddenly having toe catch my breath (wheezed a little, if memory serves). I've listened to the recording in recent years, a couple of times, and the suspense grips me each time. Buzz explained the maneuver in the "extras" of the DVD of that Ron Howard documentary, also mentions that there were about 30 seconds of fuel left before mandatory abort would have taken place.
