Howlin passed away in 2018
Multiple links in body of thread | May 8, 2019

Yesterday, out of the blue, I clicked on Howlin's Facebook page and learned that she'd passed away. I found her obituary and learned that she had departed on September 19, 2018 at the age of 72.

She was a mainstay at Free Republic and her last post there was on April 22, 2007.

I liked her a lot and I will miss her.

Howlin and some others left FR about the same time. I don’t remember the circumstances but it was during the G W Bush Presidency I believe.

It was the Great Purge of April 2007. Freepers who were pro-Giuliani were either asked to leave or zotted. A lot of people quit posting here around that time.

R.I.P. Howlin. Her live threads were the best.

Oh my, yes. When I was a noob here I always loved her live threads. It took a while for me to get my FR sea legs (back then there were so many articulate, well-informed and often hysterically funny regulars). But Howlin's live threads helped me to feel more comfortable and welcome on FR. I'll remember her as a passionate, sometimes intimidating, often wickedly funny lady. I missed her posts for a long time after she left.

RIP Howlin.

Yeah, somebody else that got tired of the drama and BS and tapped themselves out on this site, but did leave some pleasant memories for some of us that were noobs in the early 2000’s.

RIP, Howlin. You always treated me decently here.

I must be one of the few libertarians remaining on this site, so I am kind of used to not being in lockstep with the (usual) prevailing gestalt on this forum. I personally never had an issue with her, but then again, I never told her I thought she was full of it on a thread either.

I totally get her disengagement with politics; it's been pretty tough for me to continue believing that staying engaged is worth my time... which this thread reminds me is the most precious and rare commodity any of us have.

I recall her sport was to try to get folks banned. She and her crew seemed to get a real kick out of that.

There’s a difference between not speaking ill of the dead and trying to re-write history.

Seems to me that her and her “clan” were great informed posters, then when quite a lot of new people came at once- if they didn’t agree with what they had to say they would swarm them like bees and try to get them banned.

When I first got here the whole group of them seemed decent and knowledgeable but they sure couldn’t handle people saying what they didn’t want to hear and began to act like it was their job to run people off.

I saw both sides of Howlin and a few more. I miss the Howlin that was here when I first started lurking. I don’t miss the Howlin that left. I hope they all found peace after they left and found a home somewhere else on the internet.

Howlin and others were contentious to people that they didn’t agree with before the Giuliani wars. When a lot of new people showed up about 3-4 years before that they didn’t seem too welcoming.

The Giuliani war just brought the feelings to a head and people could no longer ignore things that were already getting rocky. It became open warfare then.

I respected the intelligence and views of many of the posters that are no longer here, but if you go to their posts before they left or were banned it becomes clear why that happened.

I remember her, and my memory is that she could be a bit of a snit, never tangled with her personally though. I was warned by the big boss about some of my posts concerning Bush’s immigration crap, I just cooled it, and actually didn’t post for a couple of years.

Not sure why I’m pinged on this?

I recall Howlin… not all that fondly. I can’t believe I never tangled with her? But, I went through about 30 pages of her posts, and didn’t seem me in there anywhere. I guess I was lucky,.

It was interesting seeing a bunch of the “old names”... My memory is not that great. But, I don recall a LOT of names in her posts that I don’t see anymore.

We’ve ‘purged’ a lot of good people

You were smarter than me

When they got Travis mcgee zotted

It baited me in

And marine inspector

And others

As a southerner these folks were south bashers too and would have been anti Trumpers

Yes you are right

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-backroom/1341266/posts?page=3045#3045

Nearly every freeper who pushed back hard on that thread ended up zotted

And nearly all those pushing for it and sucking up to the bossman eventually left over Giuliani

Or over Trump

I never really figured it out

The Howlin and Dane and bayourod and hchutch etc posse back then cited several reasons for enforcing the Bush idea of path to citizenship

1) we were racist to oppose it

2) it was a cardinal sin to oppose Bush....hard to believe now isn’t it

3) opposition was about vigilantism on the border

4) the rah rah sychophants that agreed with anything the powers that be here said or they felt was implied period.....a massive suck up

That and the need to belong to the clique here used to be strong ...

Now how many millions have crossed illegally since then and settled here making a conservative electorate that much harder to obtain which illustrates exactly why the left wants borders open

To dilute the nation

One last point

There are literally 20,000 replies worth of threads on all that in the tumult here back then

I prefer not to study it much to be honest because you will find folks you know today saying nasty things then

Some folks here don’t have foundation

I got into it once or twice with the Gang, but I was wise to their tactics by then by watching what they did to others, so I never would rise to the bait. Made them mad, I hope.

You kept the faith no question and you questioned the reasoning behind all the zots on that public thread about it all ..the Gheen Shot Heard thread....only to be jumped on by the harpie pack

I haven’t forgotten

Some have reinvented themselves now in 2019

Since that era when FR was part of the RNC/open borders/Bush dynasty, California has become one-party Calizuela, and states that used to be solid GOP like VA, NC, FL and TX are toss ups at best.

Once FL or TX flips to DemSocRat, it’s game over in the electoral college. And FR, during that era, facilitated the demographic shift from GOP to DemSocRat out of its blind loyalty to Bush and open borders. It could have been a force to stop the immivasion, instead it helped facilitate the flood of illegals.

This is the DemSocRat victory strategy, and it’s working perfectly.

Open Borders
+Cloward Piven
+Dunning Kruger

=Calizuela X 50
=Permanent one-party DemSocRat control of the USA.

And FR was on the wrong side during those critical years when the demography was flipping the electorate from GOP to DemSocRat.
