Melania Trump's State Dinner Menu Slammed As 'Froo-froo Garbage' By Pundit (Erick Erickson)
Newsweek ^ | April 25, 2018 | Harriet Sinclair

Posted on 04/25/2018 4:57:38 PM PDT by EveningStar

First lady Melania Trump’s menu for the state dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte was described as “froo-froo [sic] garbage” by a conservative pundit, who suggested the fare was out of touch.

In a tweet, Erick Erickson mocked the menu selected by Melania—who eschewed an event planner in favor of organizing the occasion herself—which included a rack of lamb and jambalaya...

Erick Erickson @EWErickson

This menu is why I could never be President: http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/384422-first-lady-releases-menu-details-for-macrons-state-visit  I'd serve fried chicken and mashed potatoes with sweet potato pie for dessert. None of this unpronounceable froo-froo garbage.

How about all the “cou rouge” of southern Louisiana? (Cajun French for red neck)

Apparently the French word “gateau” in the menu was too much to bear.

Erick isn't on the "gourmet" wavelength. He's more of a *gourmand* kind of guy.

Maybe I completely miss the cultural reference, but I always thought jambalaya was a Cajun treat. Once when I was on a sales expedition to Baton Rouge, my host arranged a Cajun feast that included jambalaya. Was he in error?

Would not the French President enjoy some Cajun fare?

Is Erick Erickson dumber than a box of rocks? (Rhetorical question)

I think it was a rice accompaniment to the lamb - probably not a huge bowl of it as generally is served. Carolina Gold Rice is a rare heritage grain.

I just read an article about strawberries being in season in the south but the Trumps served nectarines, instead. I just had some strawberries in Alabama last week and while they looked beautiful, they were very sour. So they were smart to go with the nectarines.

Sounded delicious. Some of the selections were absolute genius in theming Franco-American relations. I give it an A.

That makes sense — as they had the rack of lamb, there was no need to make a big bowl of rice the main dish. Though it isn’t all that expensive on a presidential dinner budget.

http://ansonmills.com/products/23 10 lb. for “only” $70

Tomatoes are actually a fruit; however, to get chocolate to stick, I bet they had to boil the tomatoes first, then peel off the skins, let them cool and then glaze them in chocolate. YUCK!

As far as the peppers are concerned, no specific kind was mentioned in the article I read....sorry.

OTOH...some things covered in chocolate, at first blush sound weird; however, chocolate covered pretzels and potato chips are delicious.

Chocolate covered ants and/or cockroaches? I wopuldn't try that...not ever! And yes, chocolate covered insects really IS a "thing" some people serve/eat.

But really, even gourmands understand gateau.

One would expect so. Maybe he was just hungry when he wrote this (and couldn't find his stash of Snickers bars).

I remember seeing the menu for a dinner hosted by President Truman. It would be considered froo froo too by this nimrod.

My brand is Carolina Gold Rice. It comes in a yellow cloth bag. It was fairly expensive (I forget how much) so I use it only occasionally. I haven’t figured out yet how to cook it properly. It’s more short grain than basmati.
