"Tennessee Rep. Jim Cooper (D) called for limited access to “military-grade assault weapons.”"

They’re not just going after “assault” rifles they’re going after guns period.

Yep. The next assault weapons ban won't make the same mistakes as the last one did.

Semi-auto? Check. Detachable magazine? Check. Banned. And President Trump will sign the bill.

"The vast majority of shooters and other violent criminals turn out to be Democrats or Democrat leaning. If we just ban liberals the country will be so much safer."

Yeah... I was wondering about the ideologies of the perp... Last year he was caught hanging around the white house... Maybe he was trying to sneak upon Trump..(?)

My comment was a thought on why no one in waffle house was armed. They were all drunk.

You are really scared to death of “suzy soccer mom” and what “she” wants, aren’t you? What do you propose other than cowering in fear of her? What do you want to be done? Should we give up certain rights to placate “suzy soccer mom?”

Here are the cold hard facts. It really doesn’t matter what “suzy soccer mom” wants, or what she thinks, because in a Constitutional Republic, the wolves don’t get to vote on fundamental rights.

The Second Amendment exists. Period. There aren’t enough “suzy soccer moms” to repeal it. The Second Amendment is quit clear that “suzy soccer mom’s” feelings don’t get to dictate what I own.

The Supreme Court has already explicitly recognized that weapons that are in “common use” are protected by the Second Amendment. The AR-15 is one of the most common weapons in use today. It is the most common, and most popular sporting rifle in existence. That’s the sole reason that criminals have been using them. Back in 1873 it would have been a lever action Winchester.

The media can try to stir “suzy soccer mom” into a frenzy, and may hope and pray that people cower in fear of “suzy soccer mom” but fundamental rights are not up for a majority vote.

Whether you or “suzy soccer mom” think otherwise, “the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table.”

If “suzy soccer mom” ever convinced enough people to destroy and usurp the Constitutional framework of our Republic, then a Second Amendment veto would be in order. We aren’t there yet.

Since the shooter did not use a “military-grade weapon” what is the fool Democrat talking about?

"I guess military grade must mean a gun that is black, cuz we don’t get to buy fully automatic."

We most certainly "do" get to buy "fully automatic". All you need to do is get the proper paperwork from the BATFE and pay the $200 tax (and, of course, pay the price for the firearm an d ammo). As long, of course, there is no state law preventing ownership by the purchaser.

$20,000 for a selective fire M16 that should cost no more than $1,000. It's a de facto ban, just as a 2,000% tax on ammo would be.

You could’ve done the same damage with a .22 Model 60.

Heh...maybe in the rancid, rotted-out, insane mind of some left-wing political commie hack. What’s concealed is concealed.

I'm not frightened. I just see what's going to happen. Look around. The business of assault weapons is on the defensive. Banks are cutting financial ties. Sporting goods stores are taking them off the shelves. The AR-15 may be the most popular rifle in America but it is still something that only 1-2% of the population owns. And for the 98% of Americans who don't own one? Half of them will be more than happy to take yours (and mine) away.

And this number increases with ever mass shooting.

The tide is turning. Politicians aren't as afraid of the NRA as they used to be. After next year when the GOP loses the House, I expect a serious move to ban assault weapons. The ban will include everything that is semi-auto and has a detachable magazine. So while people argue over trivial pedantic definitions of what makes an "assault" weapon, congress will just ensure everything is covered. The Senate won't have the votes to defeat it and President Trump will sign it in to law. It will grandfather all currently owned weapons but require that they be registered.

So, disparage Suzy soccer mom all you want. It's not going to stop her from voting in the politicians who will ban assault weapons and she doesn't care about pedantic trivial details. Hell, Suzy probably calls magazines "clips" and doesn't even know what "select fire" means!

It doesn't matter.

And maybe SCOTUS will strike it down. Or maybe they won't.

I get it, you are a soothsayer, fortune teller, and time traveler. You know everything that is going to happen and you want to whine about how the sky is falling.

Heller and McDonald are the law of the land, whether you or “Suzy soccer mom” like it or not.

Your insistence on using the term “assault weapon” when it doesn’t apply, and crying about “pendantics” also betrays your true intentions.

Yep! We’ve already given up “military grade weapons.” At our peril.

No more. :)

You left out the extensive FBI background check and agreeing to unannounced inspections by the FBI and ATF.

What are my true intentions? I likely own more of these weapons than you do.

You need to leave the Free Republic echo chamber bubble of happy thoughts and step out in to the real world once in a while. You're going to spend so much time trying to come up with a proper definition of assault weapon, you're not going to notice when the ban comes up behind you and takes away everything.

And Heller and McDonald don't say squat about assault weapons.

Were you around during the last ban? I was. Don't think it can happen? It can.

And you're right. "Assault weapon" doesn't apply because the next ban won't be looking for bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, and pistol grips as a red line. They're going to take everything.

Sorry, but it isn't. That $20K is not dictated by the government, it is just greedy dealers gouging customers.

"You left out the extensive FBI background check and agreeing to unannounced inspections by the FBI and ATF."

The fact remains that people CAN buy and own fully automatic weapons, and many do. Yes, the hoops that buyers are required to jump through are unreasonable and onerous, but that does not constitute a ban.
