White House proposes path to citizenship for 1.8 million people
CNN ^

Posted on 01/25/2018 2:19:04 PM PST by janetjanet998

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump is proposing giving 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship in exchange for $25 billion for his long-promised wall and a host of other strict immigration cuts, according to a framework proposed Thursday. The outlines of the deal were described by a White House official for staff on Capitol Hill that CNN was given access to on Thursday afternoon. In what the White House official called a "dramatic concession," Trump would accept a path to citizenship for not just those originally eligible for DACA but for a broader population, adding up to 1.8 million people, the official said.

Got to wait and see the actual text, but the democrats have already rejected this.

I think the Trump admin put this out to show that even if they tried to compromise that the dems would not go along.

The dems are happy with the current system. They are just fine with not changing anything.

Which is why you NEVER heard of the DACA program in the mainstream media during the previous corrupt administrations years. NEVER. They do not care. This is the wedge issue for 2018 and it is backfiring on them because they are unwilling to negotiate. Again, they never brought this up under O. And now? They are only bringing it up thinking it will go against Trump. The opposite is happening because Trump is willing to negotiate. But now the Libs are trashing Schumer for even considering negotiating with Trump. Schumer has cornered himself into a no win situation.

ART OF THE DEAL.

He is suggesting A PATH to citizenship, not citizenship.

Worlds of difference imo.

Yeah, the Democrats are not going to compromise on the wall or chain migration.

I agree. Dems will not reach any immigration and DACA agreement with Trump. Dems would rather campaign aganst everything Trump says on immigration and win this way and drive Trump from office in other ways such as via Bob Mueller special prosecutor. What he is doing.

A universal E-Verify that is really enforced would kill illegal immigration and send many packing. Send many scurrying back home because there is no money to be made in America for themselves and to send back home to Mexico, Guatemala, Philippines etc etc

Dems will not reach any immigration and DACA agreement with Trump. Dems would rather campaign against everything Trump says on immigration and win this way

The only problem with that strategery is that the Dems won't win that way, because the vast majority of the People are with the President on immigration policy.

...and drive Trump from office in other ways such as via Bob Mueller special prosecutor.

That's appears unlikely to succeed as well, based on all the available evidence...

It’s a great strategy by Trump. He shows he is willing to negotiate and the Democrats aren’t.

Agree completely. Deport ALL illegals. Seize their ill-gotten assets so as to pay for this.

Forget about it. Unless the wall is completely built I wouldn’t make any deals. Mean what if he loses in 2020? The Democrat or the GOP’e Republican will have the wall torn down whatever little bit is built. So you can let all these people in with the promise of something in the future that may ever happen . We’ve been here before with this wall stuff. Wasn’t a wall supposed to be funded built years ago?

Here is something funny. The American people have been duped into supporting some kind of legalization for young DACA type illegal aliens. The Dems propaganda succeeded in this. ONLY problem for Chuck Schumer when he negotiates with Trump, is that this DACA issue is something like #12 on the list of American’s top issues.

IOW Americans kinda like the idea of that bullshit “Pathway to citizenship” for young illegals ...... But they don’t really think or care too much about it.

I am fine. The Democrats will reject it and Trump will win the issue by saying he OFFERED protection for illegals in exchange for security but the Demon Rats said no...that the Demon Rats FAVORED illegals over Americans.

Trust DJT. He isn’t stupid.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times my cousin and I have been stopped coming back in from a fishing trip on the Gulf of Mexico over the past 20 years...

Corpus Christi? How close to Mexico? If you are just going out, 1000 miles from Mexico, then I would not expect you to be stopped. If you had a bigger boat, then you might be more likely to be stopped. Likewise an old boat.

The whole point is realism. A wall is realistic border security. Tracking boats is realistic. Stopping suspicious boats is realistic. Giving some annesty in exchange for a wall is realistic. Not sure what kind of magic trick people would recommend instead to get about 10 million or so illegals to deport.

Yes, and if they reject the current DACA deal based on FUNDING the wall, they are finished with DACANS as a voting block in any case. Ten years to the vote won’t help Dems. The president can do a lot to effectively stop Chain-Migration by Executive Order.

A great opening gambit by Trump.
