White House proposes path to citizenship for 1.8 million people
CNN ^

Posted on 01/25/2018 2:19:04 PM PST by janetjanet998

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump is proposing giving 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship in exchange for $25 billion for his long-promised wall and a host of other strict immigration cuts, according to a framework proposed Thursday. The outlines of the deal were described by a White House official for staff on Capitol Hill that CNN was given access to on Thursday afternoon. In what the White House official called a "dramatic concession," Trump would accept a path to citizenship for not just those originally eligible for DACA but for a broader population, adding up to 1.8 million people, the official said.

let me get this straight...

...you’re going to deport the parents of American children who range in age from newborn to teen...what if the parents are illegally here but are normal hard working people.

You’re going to break that family up? Then what’s the master plan for the remaining children?

No parents, no good influences only gang life, feelings of detachment, drugs poverty and welfare checks.

I’m sorry but I’d way rather let the good parents stay than risk creating a drug addicted parentless drug fiend who is breaking into my house at night looking for valuables to sell for meth.

Trump has just made me sick to my stomach. This proposal makes him a Quisling, collaborating with the enemies of America.

You are correct. I agree with Trump here, altho he should add e-verify. Dems don’t care about DACA - they care about the future illegals who will flood this country.

Dems will be forced to choose between these people they claim to care about, or the reasonable concessions Trump proposes. This also is the most popular proposal in terms of public opinion, as clear majorities want a path to citizenship for those already here, AND stricter immigration controls for the future.

Mules, Visas, hell, we have Europeans landing in the east coast and going directly to the hospitals.

A physical wall will not do crap long-term because crime is always several steps beyond a limited law enforcement mechanism. Do you have any idea where most of the opiates are smuggled through? Right in our west coasts harbors via importation. Also, tunnels on the border are sophisticated, breaching that wall will be eventually rectified.

As long as the welfare State is in full force, illegal immigration will always be a problem. A wall will not stop that because "gibsmethat" and "gibsmeurvote" mentality through identity theft.

Well, every time I doubt Trump he comes through.

Remember when he was going to sign whatever congress put on his desk? Didn’t mean anything, just trolling cryin chuck. Let him negotiate in his way and we’ll see what actually happens.

I agree. IF he really goes through with it, he will lose his base, and the Democrats will be back in power.

I supported Trump but no more if he betrays his base and his country.

Sounds as ridiculous as the fake news Russian story.

Very Churchillian to surrender when the going gets tough. I take back not one word. If this passes, Trump is a freaking traitor. What line will YOU not cross now? There are few lines left. Will you follow Trump over the cliff into a third world sewer, or will you tell him, “NO DACA, NOT EVER”?

It has to be fake news to distract from text from the FBI creeps and the FISA memo.

What if the parents are illegally here but are normal hard working people?

Then they are hard working criminals who stole a position from a law abiding citizen. Also, how could they get employment before the EO? They had to lie and use a false identity. On the flip-side, what about the tax payer who subsidizes an illegal DACA recipient that takes advantage of the welfare system?

I am fine with giving amnesty for true DACA qualifiers. Offer them legal status, just not citizenship.

That will never survive a court challenge. If the 'dreamers' are granted amnesty, they're going to become naturalized U.S. citizens, period.

An earlier proposal would have given them renewable three year visas. That arrangement was fair, and would satisfy your position on the matter.

Winston Churchill was known for standing his ground. So I’m perplexed by you saying that.

No one is betraying the country. That’s just your bizarre view.

Show me the numbers.

If the Trump plan reduces total third-world migration, then it is a net positive.

If it yields a net increase in third-world migration; it’s a political betrayal of the worst kind.

Maybe. They NEED DACA to pass. They MUST get DACA on path to citizenship. If they refuse to bargain with a reasonable deal, then they won’t get DACA. And they made the error of making it their biggest battle cry for 2018.

Republicans are willing to negotiate DACA, but if Dems refuse, it only alienates their base.

Trump’s base, in general, is okay with DACA long term path to citizenship, must be law abiding at all times, but ONLY with full funding of wall, complete removal of chain migration and full support for boarder patrol, including Legally ending Sanctuary cities. They are already illegal, True enforcement against sanctuary cities.

WALL = is Number One Priority for Trump’s base.

Actually the Dems will sink anything that fixes Chain Migration. So non starter unless Trump folds on Chain Migration.

I sure hope Trump won’t support DACA, that this is fake news but even conservative sources are. The consequences will be nearly irreversible and destructive.

Oh yeah. It’s bizarre to oppose rewarding the lawlessness of illegal alien parents. RIGHT! Is that YOU, JEB?
