Archaeologists Race Melting Glaciers 2 Rescue Iron & Bronze Age Artifacts Exposed by Climate Change
Newsweek ^ | January 24, 2018 | By Kastalia Medrano

Glacial archaeologists are racing melting ice in Norway to rescue thousands of ancient artifacts exposed by climate change—revealing something surprising about a mysterious and little-known ice age.

A team of scientists from Norway and the United Kingdom working in the mountains of Oppland, Norway, have discovered more than 2,000 artifacts, including Iron Age and Bronze Age weapons, remains of pack horses and even prehistoric skis.

According to lead author Lars Pilø, co-director of the Glacier Archaeology Program at Oppland County Council, the skis differ from the modern-day version considerably. They're broader, and might have at one point been partly covered in fur. The researchers also found an Iron Age tunic, a Bronze Age shoe (just one) and the remains of sleds.

But that profound environmental change led to a surprising spike in output, the team believes. The sheer volume of artifacts the archaeologists recovered from that period suggests that human human activity and production actually increased. Their compromised ability to grow crops forced the inhabitants to intensify all their other means of livelihood, said Pilø. It's an early and remarkable display of climate adaption.

Pilø also acknowledged that the ability to do this kind of field work is a mixed blessing; the warmer the planet gets and the more the glaciers melt, the more he and his colleagues stand to discover.

“This is sort of a dark archaeology, where we benefit from climate change that's making this ice high in the mountains melt,” Pilø said. "There’s not much we can do stop it, but at least we can be up there trying to find what we can.”

This sentence is a bald-faced lie. It is WINTER in Norway. The ice is NOT melting.

It is a good idea to find all they can before the next ice age buries it all again.

“a Bronze Age shoe (just one)”

That really had to suck for the Bronze Age guy who lost it and had to trek down the glacier with just one shoe left!

Exactly!! I suspect they did more roasting, fire cult watching, burning of infidels, burning of unblievers, agnostics, athiests, burning of vast tracts of lands to get more space to grow their hallucinogins, ...they warmed the planet at least to the 2,000 foot levels before the smoke was so thick it cooled the planet. Then the volcanoes became hyperactivve because all the people were rushing to the seas to determine if the sea was rising and that tilted the earth so the oceans sloshed out and equilibrium was obtained. See? Simple.

There was a well-known practice of putting skins -- with the fur facing backward -- on early cross-country skis. The fur provided traction on the "power push", and "glided" forward almost effortlessly on the forward "slide" step.

I have little doubt that the fur worked much better than the "sawtooth" ridges on modern CC skis -- but, I doubt that it lasted as long...

"Archaeologists RACE Melting Glaciers to Rescue Iron and Bronze Age Artifacts Exposed by Climate Change"

It gives the false appearance that archaeologists are melting the glaciers intentionally. No, they're just picking up artifacts that are uncovered by the glaciers' own melting. It needs to be corrected.

True. The original title was too long to meet FR posting limitation. Had to delete 4 characters. Hope you understand.

This is so bloody obvious you have to wonder how any thinking adult (not that the writers for Newsweek are thinking adults!) could possibly reach any other conclusion.

This should tell these climate change hysterics that there was no glacier there when the people lived there that made all these things.

There were no SUVs, Power Plants, Automobiles, aerosol sprays, refrigerants or any of the things they are telling us that are causing ‘climate change’. It changed all by itself with no help from man. Man simply moved out of the way.....................

UGH, when will people accept that the climate changes, always has and probably always will. Let’s not look at everything and be sad that things change and wring our hands.

His name was John, and he has been immortalized in doggerel

Deedle, deedle, dumpling, my son John,
Went to bed with his stockings on;
One shoe off, and one shoe on,
Deedle, deedle, dumpling, my son John.

Also, we learn more of him, and his toes, from the Bible:
“Many are cold, but few are frozen.”

Article just proves that during the Bronze and Iron ages that these areas were WARM ENOUGH TO SUPPORT HUMAN OCCUPATION to the extent items are still to be found UNDER the glacier.
Warmists are deranged and mentally damaged.
