Congressman Wants Moment of Silence for Every Gun Violence Victim

WASHINGTON -- A Maryland Dem is trying to change House rules so that the chamber observes a moment of silence for every shooting victim in America, not just mass shootings and terror attacks.

The House has recently observed moments of silence for victims of the October mass shooting in Las Vegas, the Halloween bike path terror attack in Manhattan, and the November mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Freshman Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) introduced H.R. 666 this week "to observe a 60-second moment of silence in the House for those killed by gun violence in the United States on the next legislative day after any such individual dies."

Hmmmm. HR "666". Seems appropriate. I say they should attempt to remain silent more often. Just a a general rule.

Well, why don't we start observing a moment of silence for every auto accident death. Or drug overdose death? Or any other death?

All this is all just grandstanding and pushing the 'grab the guns" agenda of the Left.

Congress would be silent all the time life they included every violent death in Chicago, Baltimore, Oakland, etc.

These liberals know no end to their idiocy.

How about followed by a moment of condemnation to condemn the suspect, including name and race.

The city of Chicago would keep the House silent for some time. And Philadelphia? And NYC? Murderers would be in control of our congress.

Will they indicate who the perps and victims are? There will be daily moments because there are shootings just about every day in Chicago and many other cities, concentrated in the black community, with black shooters killing black victims. If we had some truth in advertising this could educate some people.

"to observe a 60-second moment of silence in the House for those killed by gun violence in the United States on the next legislative day after any such individual dies."

That should be easy, seeing as guns don't commit violence.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a study to see what the effect on the violent crime rate would be if we confiscated guns from minorities? Talk about a time bomb of a study. Imagine the results?

How about a moment of silence for every million disarmed citizens killed by their own government?

A moment of silence in memory of every victim of socialism.

The entire government machine would slam to a halt.

Scary words: “Something’s got to be done about this!”

These words precede so many stupid laws. Just because something is terrible, doesn’t mean that anything needs to be done and definitely doesn’t mean a law needs to be passed.

Crimes, accidents, and disasters happen daily. Some are acts of nature, some are freak coincidences, some are the result of human stupidity, some are the result of malice. In 99% of cases, there was already a law that someone broke that resulted in the bad outcome. Piling on more laws is not going to fix that.

The way for the GOP to counter this is to demand a “moment of silence” for every person killed by drugs, illegal aliens or car crashes. (I don’t call them ‘accidents’).
