Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock fired special "incendiary" bullets at a 43,000-barrel fuel tank in what investigators believe was an attempt to cause an explosion, two law enforcement sources told CNN.
Those types of rounds, meant to ignite what they hit, were found inside Paddock's room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and near the fuel tank a short distance away on the grounds of McCarran International Airport, the sources said.
Authorities have previously disclosed that Paddock fired at the tank and struck it with two rifle rounds, when he opened fire on the crowd below from his 32nd floor hotel room on October 1. They had not disclosed that he used incendiary rounds to fire at the tank, which contains jet fuel.
The sources, briefed on the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly, said the incendiary rounds were recovered in an area near the tank.
It is unclear if the rounds that struck the tank were also of the incendiary variety. Chris Jones, an airport spokesman, said he was unaware of any rounds being recovered other than those that struck the tank...
Investigators also recovered tracer rounds from Paddock's room. Those rounds produce a flame when fired and allow the shooter to follow the bullet's path for more precise aim, according to the sources, who requested not to be named because they are not authorized to speak publicly about such details. There is no evidence the tracer rounds were used during the attack, the sources said.
Investigators also found "survival gear" in Paddock's room, including bulletproof vests and a breathing apparatus, the sources said.

If his room blew a section of the hotel wouldn have had structural problems. Tanks on fire room blown and burning and car next to light up parking lot.
THIS is CNN! - don’t believe it.
This might be CNN but it’s one of the things that sense. He didn’t plan to die in that room.
I had a pile of Blue tip in . 45 ACP for a while. I loaded and fired them loooong ago. Made quite a spark when they hit a steel plate. Got them from a pull dealer and loaded them myself.
Fun time.

CNN....nothing more needs to be said...
I guess no one at CNN has ever gone to a gun show before.
Even from a .50 BMG?
I’m pretty sure that he was an accountant.
Ask yourself who leaks to CNN? Especially since President Trump has so successfully branded them as “fake news”.
Same with the NBC/ABC “scoops” on this story. Who would leak to them?
Only the deep state.
NBC has already retracted - sort of - at least one of their “scoops”:

Just trying to get clicks on this big story by making stuff up? Or spreading the deep state version of events?
Be careful out there!
An undercover FBI agent was in the car directly behind the jihadis that started shooting up Pam Geller's free speech event in Garland TX, talking to them on the phone about the security and egging them on.
I'm not saying that there's any correlation between these 2 events, I'm just sayin'.
Those tanks should be moved. Back when they were installed, The Strip had not made it that far south. Virtually all the business jets are housed very near those tanks. Our family’s business has a hangar that is a stones throw from those tanks.
All he needed was a Barrett .50 with the right ammo. .223 probably wouldn’t have penetrated the tank, particularly at the range involved.
I’ve never shot a tracer round, but I read recently that they don’t light up until about 100 yards out so that they don’t give away the shooter’s position. Maybe someone here can verify that.
Well, if that was his intent he would have fired at them last, not first.
I’ve written 30 books, but screwing in a light bulb is about the extent of my engineering skills.
Yes.
That is total BULLS@@t ... c’mon ... and this from CNN, the gun experts?

Vests? Plural? Do tell. Lone shooter only needs one. How many other vests were there and who was supposed to use them?
I am firmly convinced this was another one of the Fed’s undercover ops that they lost control of - just like fast and furious. No other good explanation for the inconsistencies and slow walking this so-called investigation. They know the motive and they are trying desperately to cover up.

Tracer rounds are hardly accurate enough to give precise aim.

That would be my bet.
Where’s the CCTV surveillance footage showing Paddock moving the guns into the room. Over a week after the shooting and we’ve seen nothing.
