    Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | November 2, 2017 | Blake Apgar
Gunman Stephen Paddock lost a large amount of wealth in the two years before the Oct. 1 shooting on the Strip, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said in an interview with a local television station. Lombardo told KLAS-TV, Channel 8, that Paddock’s wealth fluctuated because of gambling, real estate transactions and “everything else that he chose to do.” Paddock lost a large amount of money after September 2015, the sheriff said. Lombardo speculated that the financial losses might have contributed to Paddock’s decision to spray a country music festival with bullets, killing 58 people and injuring more than 500 others....

A month into the investigation of why Stephen Paddock indiscriminately rained gunfire on thousands of concert attendees, killing 58 and injuring hundreds at the Route 91 Harvest festival, investigators maintain that there is “absolutely” no indication the gunman was ideologically driven or affiliated with any international or domestic terror or hate group. But investigators have made significant strides. “We do know a lot more (about Paddock) than when we started,” Rouse told the Las Vegas Sun Wednesday afternoon. “I feel like we are going in the correct direction to understand why this happened.” Asked if investigators have pinpointed a possible...

Stephen Paddock’s girlfriend may be hiding something from investigators who are trying to piece together the motive behind the Las Vegas massacre, the city’s sheriff suggested in a wide-ranging interview with a local television station. Marilou Danley, who is still a person of interest in the case, has told authorities that she never knew the attack was coming. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, in his first TV appearance in nearly three weeks, told KLAS that investigators he’s spoken to believe this assessment is accurate. But he added that something appears to be off about the manner in which Paddock amassed his arsenal...

A Las Vegas police officer accidentally fired his gun in Stephen Paddock’s suite the night of the mass shooting, the department’s sheriff said Monday, breaking more than two weeks of silence and confirming for the first time that an officer fired his weapon during the Oct. 1 incident. Sheriff Joe Lombardo said the gun went off after the officers made entry to the room, but the rounds were not fired in the room where Paddock was found dead. It’s unclear how long Campos was out of the country.

    New York Post ^ | October 25, 2017 | By Chris Perez
The New York Times has formed its own timeline of the Las Vegas massacre, which places the shooting of Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos about one minute into the attack — and not before, as authorities claim. Digital investigators working for the newspaper’s video unit pieced together footage that was captured at the scene and apparently discovered that local police were wrong yet again about what happened that night. Instead of being shot right before the assault, they claim that Campos was targeted at 10:06 p.m. — one minute after Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd at the...

Nearly a month has passed since Stephen Paddock opened fire on a country music festival at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds more — yet the shooting continues to confound the public and investigators alike. Little is known about Mr. Paddock’s motives. And investigators have revised parts of the timeline of the shooting on three occasions, raising further questions about what exactly happened. During continuing investigations into major events, traditional reporting often relies in part on official statements from law enforcement officers. But in this case, faced with shifting reports, The...

A Mandalay Bay security guard was pressured to give his first interview about the mass shooting in Las Vegas to Ellen DeGeneres because company bigwigs feared a real journalist would have grilled him about the timeline, according to a report. Police initially referred to Jesus Campos as a “hero” — saying he intervened about midway through the mass shooting and caused Stephen Paddock to stop firing. But officials later changed the timeline and claimed he had actually been targeted before the killing started, not after.

In clips of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” supplied to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Campos reviewed the events of the shooting, recounting how he was alerted to check on a door that was ajar. He said he was on the stairwell going from the 31st to the 32nd floor and came upon a door that was blocked and wouldn’t open. So he rerouted through a hallway and called security dispatch to get an engineer to check on the blocked door. Campos said he then heard drilling sounds and believed the slamming of the heavy door he passed through to get to...
