Update May 13, 2022: I served for three years at Field Station Augsburg, right before the Berlin Wall fell.

With our “Elephant Cage” pictured above, we eavesdropped a little - just a little, mind you - on certain Soviet entities.

My area of responsibility included a Soviet military district that contained most of Ukraine.

During the Clinton years I watched with great happiness as Ukraine came into it’s own and ridded itself of all the former Soviet weapons, and agreed to protection of it’s sovereignty by the US and Russia.

These days, people conveniently forget that the US promised to protect Ukraine back then, and Russia promised not to invade. How did that work out?

I’m also dating a Ukrainian immigrant woman going on five years.
