Winter is coming for the North.
Last year, three states in the Northeast — New Jersey, New York and Connecticut — landed in the top five places people were moving out of fastest, according to 2017 data from United Van Lines. (The other two states on the list were Illinois and Kansas.) And data from Pew Charitable Trusts found that while people are all about moving to the South (their population grew by nearly 1.4 million people from 2014 to 2015) and the West (866,000 more people,) the population growth in the Northeast is “sluggish.”
The Northeastern exodus is particularly acute in many big cities like New York City. Since 2010, more than 1 million people have moved from the New York area — which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island — to other parts of the country.

Data released on Wednesday by personal finance site GoBankingRates.com reveals that the No. 1 financial fear of people who live in the Northeast is that they will have to live in debt forever; the Northeast is the only region of the country that ranked this as No. 1. (The other regions put retirement as their No. 1.)
And no wonder they’re worried. The cost of living across the region is among the highest in the nation and three of the five most expensive states or districts in the country (New York, Washington DC, Massachusetts) are in the area. (The other two states are Hawaii and California.) Having to spend so much just to get by can make getting out of debt seem much harder. And housing costs and taxes in many of these states are also sky high.

True, but I dare say an even greater number of conservatives are fleeing blue states.
I myself was part of the wave of conservatives who fled California in the mid 2000s. Texas gained six conservative voters when I relocated here.

I’m not use to it either, but I’ve only got 65 years experience.
Southern states that do not have strong unions will maybe do better.
But the big cities no matter where they are will likely be gutted before it is over. Very few will find leadership that can lead them out of the debt swamp that years of 'just say yes' government has built for our once great cities.
Most likely judges will side with the unions in bankruptcy court and the unions will get their retirement payments regardless of any other debt holders rights.
I saw the county map of the US for 2016 for white voters, it was a sea of red even long island and Westchester. The original conservatives are still here, they are just overrun with dimmocrap gimmedats. Trump and obama have crystalized the situation. As for me my great grand pappy served the Army of Northern Virginia from Gettysburg to Appomattox I guess I will follow the Shanandoah valley South to my final stand.
Dumblassio is far more interested in lining his pockets from developers’ contributions and Chinese (and other foreign) churches “contributions” to allow them to build up every single freakin’ inch of NYC to the point where we will all be stacked to the sky and not a single blade of grass will remain. Why waste space with grass when you can make money selling or renting it to illegals, 10-12 to an apartment? What can you do if your entire neighborhood is becoming a foreign dirty country and the surrounding neighborhoods as well? I can’t just move anywhere, because this is where my dear friends are, the kosher markets/synagogues/other Jewish institutions which support my Orthodox lifestyle, etc. This was a really beautiful heavily Orthodox area. Now it’s becoming ghetto Chinese. How DO people coming from a Communist country not known to support personal wealth come over here and have the ready money to pay CASH for houses? Because that’s what’s happening. Realtors prefer this cash-for-houses and co-ops because then they don’t have to worry about mortgages going bust. I know for a fact that Chinese churches are fronting them the money to buy, and then cramming 1 bedroom co-op apartments, houses, etc. full of over-the-normal limit numbers of Chinese. Probably tons of illegals.

Well my other great grand Pappy was from near Limerick served in the Army of the Potomac also at Gettysburg, if they had succeeded in shooting each other I and a whole lot of family would have never happened! :-)
Just how long do you think your "island of comfort" is going to last? How much wealth and freedom are you willing to sacrifice for that "comfort"?

I'm in Texas. A couple weeks back, I was doing an estimate for a black guy who'd relocated here from Detroit in 2015, and had just bought his first house.
We got into great rapport, and the conversation gradually slid into politics. He was singing the praises of the Texas economic miracle, and told me that he's been advising his relatives to move here.
At that moment, I realized it was vital that I help this guy wake up to a basic truth. I said to him:
"Yeah, moving to Texas is a smart thing to do, but people should stop and ask themselves why this state is so successful, and why their home state is failing. Fact is, this is a conservative state, and we do things differently here. That's why we're successful, so why would anyone move here and begin voting against the policies that make this state such a great place to live?"
He paused, and I could see the light bulb going off in his head. I'm hoping that he'll be voting Republican from now on.
