Why people are getting the hell out of the Northeast
NY Post ^

Posted on 07/26/2017 9:06:34 AM PDT by TigerClaws

Winter is coming for the North.

Last year, three states in the Northeast — New Jersey, New York and Connecticut — landed in the top five places people were moving out of fastest, according to 2017 data from United Van Lines. (The other two states on the list were Illinois and Kansas.) And data from Pew Charitable Trusts found that while people are all about moving to the South (their population grew by nearly 1.4 million people from 2014 to 2015) and the West (866,000 more people,) the population growth in the Northeast is “sluggish.”

The Northeastern exodus is particularly acute in many big cities like New York City. Since 2010, more than 1 million people have moved from the New York area — which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island — to other parts of the country.

So why are so many northerners packing their bags? The insanely high cost

Data released on Wednesday by personal finance site GoBankingRates.com reveals that the No. 1 financial fear of people who live in the Northeast is that they will have to live in debt forever; the Northeast is the only region of the country that ranked this as No. 1. (The other regions put retirement as their No. 1.)

And no wonder they’re worried. The cost of living across the region is among the highest in the nation and three of the five most expensive states or districts in the country (New York, Washington DC, Massachusetts) are in the area. (The other two states are Hawaii and California.) Having to spend so much just to get by can make getting out of debt seem much harder. And housing costs and taxes in many of these states are also sky high.

Oh ok. But I was not thinking the poster I replied to wasn’t referring to govt. jobs or politicians, just regular Americans. If that’s what they are referring to then I get it. And yeah Maryland is a cesspool.

My CT town is two to one Republican.

I am looking forward to retirement (soon) so I will never have to visit Hartford again.

I keep reminding my wife that if we move to FL, TN, TX or NV we will have save enough money on state income taxes to cover car payments on one car for the rest of our lives.

If she wants a new car she will have to move south or west. :-)

Virginia has a very diversified economy.
Bio-tech, internet, defense contractors, it was a paper plant that offered my dad a job in 1977 that resulted in my being here.
The growth of Fedzilla has driven much of the growth in Northern Virginia.

Oh I'm coming to Florida all right!

Me and the missus gonna retire, leave NY and more right into your neighborhood.

Then, I'm gonna run for dog catcher.

Gonna be the most liberal dog catcher you ever seen.

Gonna let the boys hump each other, give treats when their done, gonna let them lick themselves in public, gonna let the fathers run out on their families, put 'em on public assistance, free medical care, etc.

Many of our relatives live in Florida. I can’t take the heat for long.

Exactly.

I would say that is pretty much what has been going on since as far back as I can remember. Even most areas that are conservative are far less conservative than they were 10, 20, ... 50 years ago.

Just think back X years ago and compare it to today.
How would people have reacted to gay marriage? Transgenders? What were the tax rates? What percent of the population attended church? How many places had blue laws (closing stores on Sunday)? What were people’s attitudes toward out of wedlock pregnancy? What was the level of rules and regulations that people were subjected to - things like homeowners association rules on up?

I think even conservatives are much more “tolerant” of our loss of freedom and our acceptance of deviant behavior than they were even 10 years ago. 50 years ago the difference were even more drastic.

Heck no.

I tell future liberal Coloradians that the Carolinas are paradise!

It is Colorado that has Bigfoot apes roaming the cold mountains.

The ice sheet is a mile high. EPA polluted our rivers with gold mine toxins. Governer Dem Hickenpooper turned the Interstate into a parking lot so bring your barbecue for morning commute. NORAD attracts thermo-nuclear war.

Additionally, rabbit poop STINKS.

But Carolinas are heaven for Free-Stuffers.

I have my Granddaughter up for her yearly week. She refers to herself as a Masshole, hates the place. She is 14 and if she keeps this attitude there may be some hope.

She got a MAGA sweat shirt, her request, as a present for helping me on a project.

Well again, we do need to reverse the tide, otherwise we are dooming ourselves to political extinction. Even states like Texas, Georgia and North Carolina will soon be in danger of going permanently blue thanks to ceding the big cities to liberals. We got lucky with Trump in 2016. But if we do not reverse things, Trump may end up being the very last conservative president.

It’s a beautiful day here in Richmond.
I would be in West Virginia already, but my wife won’t move away from her mother.

100% correct... things that are standard today would never have been entertained...

I mean you always have religious idiots making stupid laws, prohibition for example... but a lot has gone downhill for sure... even in my short 40 something years.

I find it absolutely astonishing that you condemn ALL of the people from The Northeast.

That’s a bit like Hillary calling all Trump followers Deplorables.

It’s very judgemental and narrow minded.

(Even in MA Trump got 33% of the votes.)

What about Maine?

I know the areas around Portland and ‘Disgusta’ (state capitol Augusta) are becoming liberal cesspools, full of Somalian immigrants. However, Downeast Maine is still full of good, hard-working conservatives. Don’t know that people are leaving there.

Liberals looking for other nests to foul.

And importing every single freaking Chinese in China to Queens. Just saw FOUR MORE coming out of my development's office. The Chinese realtors have obviously paid off the development's management to only show available homes to Chinese buyers. What 10 years ago was a very diverse community is now jibber-jabber-haYAH instead of English, with habits right out of Guangzhou, such as laying rugs on landscape bushes to dry, storing dirty soda bottles in window wells until redeeming them, throwing cigarette butts everywhere, and having your toddler relieve themselves against buildings. You can see people have subdivided their living room through windows at night, with floor to ceiling curtains like at a doctor's office, and stacked bunkbeds in each section, creating ghettos. They refuse to learn English, so you don't have neighbors, you have occupants. I feel like a stranger in my own country, and it's every neighborhood in Queens, not just mine. Yuck. But anywhere I would move, they would already have occupied and fouled that neighborhood as well.

Ok, I am not a fan of Wichita. Our Midwest city of evil. But the rest of the state is beautiful and the people are great.

I can never understand people leaving a hell-hole for a better place THEN bringing their destructive voting and Social habits with them.

It is easy once you understand that for these people their belief in Big Govrnment and Liberalism/Progressivism is a religion.

They don’t recognize that it is a religion to them but they treat the principles of Liberalism as unquestionable articles of faith. That makes their political beliefs a religion in my book.

When they look at the horrendous results of decades of Democratic Party rule on places like Detroit Michigan and Youngstown Ohio they don’t connect the dots to Progressive policies because their faith tells them that Progressive policies bring about good things for average people.

So like I would take my Christianity with me if I moved so they take their Progressivism with them when they flee the economic devastation that their faith has wrought on the North East.

Crossing the Mason-Dixon going north on I-95 is so depressing. It is like going into the Soviet Union, a dark cold place full of hateful people.

So take I-75 you will meet much nicer people.

“when they flee the economic devastation that their faith has wrought on the North East. “

What economic devastation?

High cost of living and high home prices are hardly economic “devastation”. The San Francisco area and D.C area are as bad,or worse, yet I’d hardly call them economically devastated.
