Trump: ‘We’re not going into Syria’
New York Post ^ | April 11, 2017 | Michael Goodwin

Amid rising complaints that his aides are saying different things about Syria and that his policy is confusing, President Trump emphatically cleared the air Tuesday.

“We’re not going into Syria,” he told me in an exclusive interview. “Our policy is the same, it hasn’t changed. We’re not going into Syria.”

The president, speaking by phone, called Syrian president Bashar al-Assad a “butcher” and a “barbarian” for using sarin gas on his own people, but said last week’s successful missile strike on an air base there was not the start of a campaign to oust the dictator.

“Our big mission is getting rid of ISIS,” Trump said. “That’s where it’s always been. But when you see kids choking to death, you watch their lungs burning out, we had to hit him and hit him hard.”

“National Security Council officials just held a background briefing with reporters on the declassified intel assessment of last week’s chemical attack on Khan Shaykhun, Syria. Full story coming soon, but a few takeaways:

Sarin confirmed as the nerve agent used via testing on victims as well as symptoms. Secondary responders also suffered exposure symptoms.

Su-22s from Shayrat airfield dropped the sarin on Khan Shaykhun; conventional weapons were dropped about six hours later on hospital treating sarin victims - “no comment” from officials on if Russia did latter.

No ISIS or other terrorists in area have sarin (just mustard gas) - attack was “not a terrorist holding of sarin or a terrorist use of sarin”

WH official on if Russia, present at airfield, knew of sarin attack: “We don’t have information on that per se... still looking into that.” Adding: “We do think that it is a question worth asking” Russians how they were with Syrian forces at airfield “and did not have knowledge” of the attack in planning/prep stages.

“Leakage inconsistent” with Russians saying sarin came from opposition stocks on ground - “we don’t see a building with that chemical residue”

On Syria hoax conspiracy theories: Body of evidence “too massive” for anyone to fabricate. Official added that videos released of attack did correspond with that date, time, location. “

That’s gotta piss Trump off. That’s not the way he likes to operate.

So trolls and butt-hurt fools are to be taken seriously as a real representation of what most people think?

Wow, who knew.

Have a lovely day

Thank you Mr. Trump...from the depths of my heart, thank you.

We need to leave Iraq. We need to leave Afghanistan. And we need not to go IN to anywhere else until we’re ready to fight like we did in the 1940’s. Anything less wastes our money, our soldiers’ lives and gives the enemy a chance to study our weaknesses.

I didn’t say anything about how seriously they should be taken. And neither did you. You said “I think hardly anyone who was worried thought Trump had a plan to go in to Syria” and that is a clearly not true.

You said "“I think hardly anyone who was worried thought Trump had a plan to go in to Syria.”

But it looks like you were one of them.

That's why I worry about him getting entangled the exact same way Bush did, by getting tied up in the ME.

Did you ignore that post too? lol

Oh, so being worried about things going out of control and him being tied down is the same as yelling about WWIII.

Gotcha. Couldn't happen, we'll in and out of Afganistan in a hurry, too. Just sixteen years. We'll never get tied down there if we just send a few thousand guys.

So, now I know where your great mind is, up a dark, damp, smelly, portion of your hind quarters, where realistic concerns and BS about WWIII are one and the same thing. Pretty much Alfred E. Newman with a prune face from the damp quarters you keep your head in.

And as I said, you have a lovely day.

You said hardly anyone was worried so, yes, worry is the keyword there.

You said "“I think hardly anyone who was worried thought Trump had a plan to go in to Syria.”

Here is another one.

Taking Trump at his word when he said we wouldn't be the world's policeman and didn't need to be involved in Syria is and now running down that very road is what pisses Trump supporters off.

That wasn't just worry that was an accusation.

Judging by the basic story line, perhaps the sarin was used to flush out a target. Note the later drone survelience and strike on hospital. They potentially might have been taking out a big fish hiding in the little fish.

ISIS fighters got inside the wire during a hellish firefight with US Special Ops in Syria

So US troops that are not in Syria repelled an attack on their base in Southern Syria repelled an attack on their base in Southern Syria. Interesting.

Must be Fake news.

If you're not worried that doesn't mean there aren't people who think Trump is trying to do what he promised but that he could get trapped in something and with situations he can't control. I doubt he's going into Syria. Special forces in Southern Syria are world police whether you can grasp that or not and they obviously haven't been pulled out.

There's a world of difference between Trump getting tied down with a constant series of little crisis incidents and Trump going into Syria as in invading or fighting the Syrian Army.

Are you off your meds again? Find someone who gives a crap what you think to argue with. I tried to be civil and jocular, but you're just like the butthurt and the trolls who are always dying to scream at someone about something.

You seem to be a lot more than worried...

"Trump got punked, it's that simple. That's not an attack on him, it's disgust with his being that gullible." - Rashputin

...you were downright convinced that Trump was tricked into a fight with Syria.

Now those are the words of a butt-hurt fool troll. Destroying ISIS was a major campaign promise. And they killed all 30 jihadis.

I'm seeing where you're coming from more and more. You either can't read or don't read anything that doesn't agree with your preconceptions. So, US Marines are Special forces, too? Interesting, and having served in the Marine Corps I consider that an insult.

When did these guys pull out? I haven't found anything about it but according to you, makes no difference. The reality is that more places we have groups that can be targeted the more little crisis situations are possible but then again, there's that prune head on your shoulders that decides reality isn't reality unless it fits your world where the sky is purple, trees have pink leaves, and the grass is blue.

US Marines Move into Syria with Howitzers

Marines attached to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit quietly moved into Syria weeks ago to establish an artillery base, defense officials confirmed to Military.com on Wednesday.

The move comes as American-backed forces intensify their assault on Raqqa, the Islamic State's capital city.

The Washington Post first reported Wednesday that Marines attached to the MEU -- which is deployed around the Middle East, conducting training in countries including Oman and Djibouti -- had departed their ships and moved into Syria.

A defense official would not speak to the size of the detachment deployed to Syria, but said it included elements of multiple artillery batteries, as well as support personnel, including infantry Marines. It's the first time American artillery support capability has been on the ground in Syria since the fight against the Islamic State began in 2014.

Rex Tillerson is in Moscow.

Talking is fine and the right thing to do, but any military actions hostile to Syria’s government are unacceptable including a “no-fly zone”.

Lindsey Graham is on the warpath talking along the lines of ‘don’t take on Trump’.

Graham and the other supporters of the Al Qaeda terrorists fighting Assad in Syria need to be disappointed by the next actions from the POTUS.

If we don’t go in then who does go in when Assad “goes?” What is the point of toppling a leader of a majority Muslim country if you’re not planning to “go in” afterwards? Do we expect the nice Muzzies to form a kindly, free, open democracy all by themselves? I thought we learned you either go in with overwhelming force and take things over or you stay out entirely. We’ve seen the half-assed approach in all forms under both Bushes, Clintons and Obama now. Isn’t doing the same thing and expecting different results the definition of insanity?
