This group of conservative representatives have voiced objections to the health care replacement, arguing that it does not go far enough in repealing Obamacare. On Twitter on Friday, Trump put pressure on the group, saying that they may be the ones to blame for the American Health Care Act failing.

May be there is a reason for 17% approval for the polished turd, aka RyanCare. And not even brought to the floor. Conservatives did not like it clearly. Why didn’t Ryan not bring it to vote if it had the ‘conensus’?

Draft a clean repeal and FC will be 100% in favor. Do it.

Jeff Duncan said it passed and that it was a first step. I assume he was one of the twenty or so willing to support the President in the negotiations. This link confirms that:

U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-Laurens, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, was leaning from "no" to "yes" at the time the bill was pulled.

According to his spokesman, Duncan was impressed by an 11th-hour leadership compromise to repeal Obamacare's "essential health benefits," which required insurance providers to cover maternity care, emergency room visits and mental health services — a major driver of premiums.

U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, R-Mount Pleasant, who is also a Freedom Caucus member, announced Friday during House floor debate that he would vote "no." He represented the wing of the GOP that became the biggest roadblock to the leadership's wishes. At least 25 other members of the Freedom Caucus were prepared to vote against the bill, arguing it didn't do enough to drive down costs.

If everyone gets heard at the beginning, then compromise starts at the beginning. So you don’t get this “ ‘which part of the body is the most important’ joke” result.

Instead of the Freedom Caucus or the Tuesday Group, the House Republican Steering Committee is where people should place the blame for this. (The first rule of the House Republican Steering Committee is no one talks about the House Republican Steering Committee!)

Apparently, they already tested it internally and it would get about 75 votes. It seems people have gotten used to having their children covered under their policies until they are 26 and having preexisting conditions covered. How quickly it happens; the people get used to benefits as long as someone else is paying.

This is a very important item there:

At least 25 other members of the Freedom Caucus were prepared to vote against the bill, arguing it didn't do enough to drive down costs.

If this is true, then it wasn't even ideology that was driving the Freedom Caucus. They probably had the exact same take on the AHCA bill as I did: It would be politically disastrous to pass a bill that didn't offer relief in the form of lower premiums to employers and individuals immediately.

It really comes down to do you stand with President Donald Trump or perennial presidential candidate Ron (Rand) Paul ?

Libertarians always lose and hurt the party they draw votes from. One plank of the Trump and Republican agenda was utterly defeated and Obamacare will survive. The next deal is with the Democrats, when they are ready (depending on polls leading up the midterms or midterm results).

I would bet a significant sum that not 20% of freepers know what the bill contained,...

I'd bet that not 20% of the Rs in the HOUSE knew what the bill contained!

I've been saying for weeks that the next deal is with Democrats and Republicans alike. When insurance carriers send out their 2018 renewals with massive hikes in their premiums later this year, members of Congress from both parties will be falling all over themselves to come up with something far more comprehensive (and effective) than this sorry pile of nothing that we saw in the AHCA.

One plank of the Trump and Republican agenda was utterly defeated and Obamacare will survive.

Go back and look at the health care proposal Trump ran on during his campaign. The AHCA was a pathetic mockery of his original proposal.

I want to thank each and every one of them personally for saving President Trump from himself. He would have owned Trumpcare fully and would have been slaughtered when it collapsed.

I was going to post the exact sentiments, almost verbatim. Congressional Democrats will never admit it but they were salivating over the opportunity to wash their hands of Obamacare.

Trump dodged a bullet he never saw coming.

It was a first step in the House and it was defeated by Republicans who were going to vote with Nancy Pelosi against President Trump so Obamacare will not remain and not be repealed or replaced until the Democrats say it will. That will be never if they do better than expected in the 2018 midterms because then they will go for the 2020 elections.

Suffering people are the bread and butter of their free MSM advertisements masquerading as news.

Baloney. The GOP can introduce any bill they want -- even the same AHCA -- and they can pass it whenever they want to pass it. These fake deadlines and manufactured hysterics only serve to convince me even more that the whole thing was a sham.

Looks like half are Trump supporters, half are wimps.

Actually, more than majority.

Majority of Freedom Caucus Supported and/or Endorsed Trump (10 early supporters prior to convention, plus 7 after GOP convention).

3 gave tepid support, 3 unsure, and 5 AntiTrumpers...

They are Republicans In Name Only if they vote with Nancy Pelosi against President Trump and the Republican Caucus.

Correct. If you are a Conservative it is becoming harder and harder to support the republicrat uniparty. ryan = pelousey

Any bill that raises/gathers/obligates taxes technically must originate in the House of Representatives. I realize PPACA began as a Senate Bill, but Pelosi and the HoR acquiesced on it in reconciliation thus giving it standing. Remember when she said “we deemed it passed...?” That was it.

Actually the PPACA began as a House bill that was completely unrelated to health care, if I remember. The Senate took that bill and changed it completely, so they always had the ability to go back and say that it originated in the House.

Technically, yes. As an amendment, but the goal was for the Senate to vote first (not according to the Constitution).

It was nothing but majority party trickery - something our side is wont to do under any circumstance.

I think we should round up every one of these parliamentary trickery bastard politicians and string them up.
