This group of conservative representatives have voiced objections to the health care replacement, arguing that it does not go far enough in repealing Obamacare. On Twitter on Friday, Trump put pressure on the group, saying that they may be the ones to blame for the American Health Care Act failing.

Thank you for that list.

Proud to say that Andy Harris is my Representative.

So, it’s a libertarian/conservative group. Not strictly conservative.

I wondered why Sen. Rand Paul was inserting himself into House of Representative negotiations. Now we have Sen. McCain and Graham lobbying President Trump to reach out to the Democrats. This is the result of inferior party discipline in the Republican Caucus. Speaker Ryan was right; they need to learn how to act like a majority.

You can start with the unarguable fact that hardly 17% of the public even knows what the bill contained.

And whose fault is that? Someone really fell down on the job, don't you think?

I won't blame President Trump for this but I really question his approach in getting behind something that had no real constituency and no credible sales pitch to the voters.

For that matter, I wonder how serious he really was about getting the stupid thing passed at all. He could have done wonders for it simply by making a prime-time TV address and explaining it to the American people. The fact that his PR campaign in support of this bill amounted to no more than a half-dozen Twitter messages is very telling.

According to reports, Ted Poe quit the Caucus today due to their failure to support President Trump.

So much for all the claims here on FreeRepublic that the Freedom Caucus is a bunch of “Never Trumpers.

Justin Amash – Justin Amash of Michigan has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2011. He was opposed to Donald Trump during the 2016 election, and he has continued to criticize Trump since after the inauguration, especially being critical of Trump’s executive order suspending immigration from several Muslim-majority countries. Amash said in a statement in January, “It’s not lawful to ban immigrants on the basis of nationality. If the president wants to change immigration law, he must work with Congress.”

I wondered why Sen. Rand Paul was inserting himself into House of Representative negotiations.

Paul Ryan basically forced his hand (or, more accurately, the hand of every Republican in the Senate) on it when he claimed that the 52-48 party breakdown in the Senate was driving the process to craft the bill in the House.

At this point in time I'm asking a similar, but different, question: If the House bill was driven by the political limitations of the Senate, then why didn't the Senate draft a bill first?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not conversant in all the procedural protocols on these things, but that approach always seemed strange to me.

This is your example of a conservative ?

No thanks

Mark Sanford – Mark Sanford of South Carolina has served in the House of Representatives since 1995. He has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, saying in February 2017 that Trump “has fanned the flames of intolerance,” according to The Washington Post.

Are you siding with Rynocare which was about to morph into TrumpCare, aka Obamacare 2.0 — the polished turd?

No, thanks. No appetite for your sh#t sandwich.

This is your idea of a "Never Trumper"?

Jeff Duncan – Jeff Duncan was elected during the 2010 election. He was one of the first elected officials in the country to endorse Donald Trump for president.

It's an Origination Clause issue.

The Constitution says revenue-raising bills must originate in the House, and since the bill that became Obamacare was written in the Senate, House Republicans say that’s a problem. Led by Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona, 40 members of the House have signed onto a lawsuit challenging the Affordable Care Act on the grounds that it violates the Origination Clause because it failed to originate in the correct house of Congress.

The Democrats got away with it though ...

For those who want to remember what Trump said he would do during the campaign, this was the website:

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/healthcare-reform

The above website NO LONGER EXIST.

What we have is this for reference:

http://www.healthedeals.com/articles/-donald-trump-healthcare-plan

In March 2016, he released proposals for reforming U.S. healthcare. Details appear on the Trump-Pence website—with a rather un-Trumplike clarity. To reform healthcare in America, make it more affordable and improve access and the quality of care, the candidate calls on Congress to act and pronounces that the House and the Senate must :

Repeal Obamacare

Modify existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines

Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system

Allow individuals to use health savings accounts

Require price transparency from all healthcare providers, especially doctors and healthcare organizations like clinics and hospitals

Block-grant Medicaid
Allowing states, which know their population better than the federal government , to manage their own Medicaid budget without the overhead of a federal program can save money and will likely provide better outcomes for members .

Remove barriers to the entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe, reliable and cheaper products

This Rep. Jeff Duncan ? Remember almost 20 of the libertarian caucus were going to support President Trump.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House passed a resolution that gives Congress the legislative tools to repeal Obamacare through the budget reconciliation process. Congressman Jeff Duncan released the following statement after passage of the resolution: “Today, the House took the first step to repealing Obamacare. The outgoing Administration’s wrongheaded attempt to control the healthcare market through a government designed marketplace has been one of the single most economically destructive programs in American history. By taking this first step, the Congress is one step closer to relieving all Americans from this burden from Washington. I look forward to seeing this process through to its conclusion by putting a full repeal package on President Trump’s desk as quickly as possible.”

Paul’s appearance was a sign that the libertarians were holding sway.
It’s signficant that the HFC has an 80% requirement for taking a position as a group. So libertarians could veto any group position.
Regardless of the libertarian faction it’s still a good supporter of conservatism.

But it was Ryan that had them act unlike a majority!
The start of the process did not include the conservative, or libertarian, members. It was assumed that they could be given some compromise at a later date.
That’s how the House has been run, that’s how the Leadership composition is organized for it to be run: RINOs first.

A majority has to get it’s major disagreements worked out early in the process.

I'm not sure what your point there is.

1. Did that resolution pass?

2. Did the House approve a repeal bill that could be passed in the reconciliation process?

That makes sense, but the Senate could at least get a bill out of committee that the House could use as the foundation for THEIR bill.

I’m siding with President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Speaker Ryan because they are the most conservative team I’ve seen in my lifetime and they are unabashed and unashamed Christians who give glory to God as they seek to do right for the citizens of my country.

Very helpful, thanks.

Surprising to find that only 3 are rabid NeverTrumpers, and Muslim coddlers, though some others are suspect.

Justin Amash

Ken Buck

Mark Sanford

The problem arises when that faction is more loyal to the libertarian caucus than the Republican Caucus. Libertarians, in general, cannot govern because they do not believe in government. They obstruct.
