Schumer: Democrats will filibuster Gorsuch nomination
Washington Post ^ | March 23 | Ed O'Keefe, Robert Barnes and Ann E. Marimow

Posted on 03/23/2017 8:11:43 AM PDT by PghBaldy

As the Senate Judiciary Committee was hearing from witnesses for and against Judge Neil Gorsuch, his Supreme Court nomination was delivered a critical blow: Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he would join with other Democrats in filibustering Gorsuch — a move that would require at least 60 senators to vote to end debate on the nomination.

Democrats are overplaying their hand at every turn. This is why it’s an urban and regional party.

They defend illegals, not citizens. They demand fair treatment for LGBTQ freaks, not all citizens. They want super-rights for blacks, not equal rights for all. It’s pathetic.

“Schumer: Democrats will filibuster Gorsuch nomination”

If McConnell had any respect the Democrats would not dare pull this stunt.

This is not the Senate's legitimate role of advise and consent. This is sabotage plain and simple.

McConnell should came down hard on any Senator who threatens filibuster. I am sick and tired of weak, spineless Republicans.

Because Schumer is performing a fighting retreat...his donors and base require it.

Yes. They are just too damn lazy now to do the actual ‘work’ of a filibuster. It is all horseshit bravado threat.

The establishment republicans in the Senate don’t have the guts to use the “nuclear option”...

They will just sit and wring their hands and worry, worry...

Note to Trump: I’m still available for a Supreme Court Justice position.

They’re the ones who first used the nuclear option, and they’re sure to use it again.

Ried came out and said he'd use the "nuclear" option on a Supreme court judge. It's be nice to hit the RATS first for a change.

There are 23 Senate Democrats up for reelection in 2018, along with the two ‘independents’ who always vote with the Dems.

I could see McCain and Graham grabbnig one other GOP lightweight and vote against the nuclear option.

As was said yesterday, if Gorsuch cannot be confirmed then no nominee presented by a Republican POTUS could ever be confirmed. If that reality will not move Graham, McCain, or McConnell then they will have conceded the future to the radical Left. And BTW since Schumer is forever using hard Right to describe anyone to his Right isn’t it about time for the leadership to stop the euphemistic language and simply call these people the radical Left. There are what, four blue dog Dems still left?

Nuke ‘em!......................

In this case I don't think they will need to because I don't think they will have a lot of trouble finding nine or ten Democrats to vote for cloture. This is not the issue that many of them want to fall on their sword on because it's no win.

Writing in The Nation back in January, the old communist professor Frances Fox Piven declared the leftist strategy against President Trump is to "Throw Sand in the Gears of Everything" -- the latest phase of the Cloward-Piven Strategy for revolution. Schumer wants to keep Gorsuch off the court until after several key appeals are argued on the April docket. This is a fight for America's survival, and the nuclear option is warranted.

I just wonder why schumer would say that knowing about the nuclear option.

Grandstanding, like always.

This is a MAJOR strategic error on Schumer’s part.

There’s ‘no change’ at USSC with replacing Scalia with Gorsuch; and he can allow eight Red State ‘D’ Senators like Joe Manchin to get street cred for re-election in his home state for voting ‘Aye’ on a ‘Supremely’ qualified candidate.

This isn’t a Harriet Myers type nomination where it would be easy to vote against an unqualified individual.

Instead; Schumer does his Red State ‘D’ Senators no favor here by denying them the opportunity to vote ‘Aye’.

Just stupid.

Thanks for the assist for 2018, Chuckie.
