LOS ANGELES -- California residents evacuated neighborhoods below hillsides scarred by wildfires as the third - and largest - in the latest series of storms brought powerful rain Sunday and warnings about flash flooding and possible mudslides.
The National Weather Service warned that the system was expected to gain strength throughout the day and could be the strongest in at least seven years. Flash flood watches and warnings were in effect for swaths of greater Los Angeles, where mountain areas could see more than 2 inches of rain.
Authorities ordered evacuations near wildfire burn areas in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and Orange counties. Officials said potential debris flows could restrict access for emergency responders.

Yeah. A lot of rain.
Normal as all get out.
Droughts over.
Always happens this way.
This year is not bad at all in terms of torrential rain.
Hmmm...
It seems like California goes through periods of extended drought, followed by extended wet periods.
Over the centuries, mankind has learned to use something called Reservoirs to alleviate this situation. Californians used to know this, but around 30 years ago they lost that knowledge and quit building more.
January rain total in L.A. is already three times normal, and this storm will add significantly to that number.
Um..... the pool is getting awfully full...... I used to have a husband to take care of these things... I don’t even have a pump. How many inches more are coming today because I don’t feel like running to Home Depot... it’s my day off! /lazy

It’s funny that the people in CALIF. that are complaining about CLIMATE CHANGE are complaining because their climate isn’t changing.
Yup a lot of rain for sure. Filling up all the added reservoir capacity that was put in after the drought of the late 80s. After all we voted for billions of dollars in water bonds to do just that. Oh wait, billions spent and the increase of reservoir capacity is exactly.....zero. But there are a boatload of pensions that got covered I am sure.
Steinbeck's second novel explores what happens when a Vermont farm family moves to California during the wet years around 1890. They are prosperous for a number of years, but then the periodic drought arrives. The locals, mostly Mexicans, know what to expect, but not the Vermonters.
You can actually find online news articles from the era discussing the drought.
Where to flee to? Vegas? Canada? Mexico?
They can stay right the hell where they are
I just got an email weather watch notice for Phoenix...up to an inch of rain is forecast for tomorrow. We’ve had so much rain here in the last week, I thought it would never end.
“In spite of two wet winters, and this year with flooding from the Oregon border to the LaRaza border. Our Drought Nazis are putting out the fake news that Californicator’s drought is not over.”
There was never really a drought, just less water fell over several years but there was still water. The local reservoirs had their water released at night, and a couple of large reservoirs drained near empty for maintenance - during the “drought”
It was called a “drought” to: 1) encourage people to buy water “efficient” gear, in other words, generate sales tax money and fill some politicians pockets. 2) raise water rates for using less water - pay more for using less. AND the rates will NOT DROP because of plentiful water.

That’s kinda purdy.
Every 12 years—since the days of Fr. Serra (now St. Serra) there has been a killer wet year—flooding, mudslides, California becomes like-—Texas. This is the 12th year! More rain to come-—wet season will last till the end of March.
