Students at Independence High School in Williamson County, Tennessee, will not be allowed to watch President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration during class on Friday.
Senior Olivia Roberts was so surprised by the ban she decided to write a Facebook post that has since gone viral:
To preface this, I am not one to post or debate anything political on Facebook but wanted to hear thoughts on this:
I go to public school and we are not allowed to watch the inauguration tomorrow...
Teachers are banned to show it.
Teachers are also not allowed to discuss anything about politics or religions which is understandable but this is a nationwide event in history that I think an a US citizen (whether you are happy about it or not) should be watched to honor and support the president of The United States of America (no matter who it is) And pay respect to the country we are privileged to live in. We watched the last 2 presidential inaugurations in school.

I respectfully disagree. That’s the kind of crap that lefties pull. Go to China or North Korea and you’ll see portraits of their leader everywhere. I’ll bet 0vomit’s portrait is in a lot of places and it won’t be replaced by Trump’s. So be it. Trump is far better than that and doesn’t need our slavish knee-jerk devotion.
Let’s not worship our President.
I would keep my kids home. For good. Home school or charter.
Look at it this way, the kids need to stay home where they can actually learn something that is worth something.
“What kind of education can the parents of children in this school system expect. I would be yanking them out tomorrow.”
Even in Californicator, you can homeschool your kids for free on line.
A younger man, who is like an extra son to us, pulled his 3 kids out of school for bs like this and the illegal gangs in school.
Each workday morning, the kids go to their parents’ office and to a room set up with 3 computers for the kids and one for a parent to monitor. The parents are healthcare professionals, and they monitor kids between patients. 4 days a week, they all have brown bag lunches. On Fridays, they go out for lunch or have it delivered.
Their older son goes to the community college and picks up his siblings to take them to dance or whatever sport they are in at the local school. Then, he brings them home afterwards.
Thats the kind of crap that lefties pull. Go to China or North Korea and youll see portraits of their leader everywhere.
Really? So when I was in the U.S. military all those portraits in every headquarters, all the school I attended, all the VA buildings, courts and government building where America's Commander in Chef were proudly displayed is the kind of crap the leftist pull?
Really?
Ya never served in the U.S. military, did ya? Did ya ever go to a U.S. court, a U.S. public school, etc?
Why would you think only the leftist and north Koreans display portraits of their leaders?
Do you live in the U.S.?
Didn't you mean effluent?
Yes, Williamson County went 68K Trump to 31K Hillary. Some well-off liberals in Brentwood and Franklin, but the county as a whole is Red.
I will speculate the school has a significant percentage of minority students.
So, banning TV coverage and political debate might protect the health and safety of all students - for one day, anyway.
Re: “Whereas it was an uplifting, inspirational event in 2009 and 2013.”
No.
It just means that school authorities were completely confident in 2009 and 2013 that white students were not going to provoke or attack minority students.
That game was as memorable as any inauguration, but I fully expect Fireworks tomorrow from DJT. So I will be standing on the all when He gives his speech.
It's quite simple, naps. The purpose of our schools is supposed to be education. Presidential inaugurations are live history in the making - that is a very good reason for students to watch it. Furthermore, watching it together where they can supposedly discuss it afterwards among themselves, or even with their teachers, if any who could handle a reasonably fair dialogue could be found, would be a good thing.
In a real educational system it would provide an excellent opportunity for the teachers to explain once again how our Constitutional system of government works, and how it provides (supposedly) for a peaceful transfer of power.
That's how it should work, although I know with the current school systems they'll fight it tooth and nail. Just letting the kids watch the inauguration together would be a good first step, though.
Hang around and watch as their fed $$$ are cut. LOL!
These are not schools. These are leftist political pedophile whorehouses where leftist pimps, calling themselves “principals” or “superintendents,” have their sluts work on the young students.

I see what you mean. Trump would trigger minority sensibilities and cause them to lose control of themselves? Maybe. I would favor letting students watch it who want to, and punishing the daylights out of any kid who acts up negatively. But I’ve been out of school for a while now.
I don’t know the policy on this frankly
Williamson is county that went 2/3 Trump but of the 9 red metro counties surrounding 60% blue Davidson which is Nashville proper, Williamson is the least conservative mainly cause its overrun literally with northerners and California people
My son attends a rival high school to Independence and they will be watching
Independence due to so many Yankees also outlawed all southern war of independence memorabilia
Whereas my sons school also in Williamson but more southern allows it and you bumper stickers and whatnot
My middle son has been recruited as a defensive back for independence and he’s excited
They are usually in the top 4 statewide
You would have enjoyed my school in 1961 where most teachers and students were Catholic and the inauguration was a solemnity.
Ha! Normally I’d say wishful thinking but with our new president as of tomorrow it could actually happen. :-)
