Students at Independence High School in Williamson County, Tennessee, will not be allowed to watch President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration during class on Friday.
Senior Olivia Roberts was so surprised by the ban she decided to write a Facebook post that has since gone viral:
To preface this, I am not one to post or debate anything political on Facebook but wanted to hear thoughts on this:
I go to public school and we are not allowed to watch the inauguration tomorrow...
Teachers are banned to show it.
Teachers are also not allowed to discuss anything about politics or religions which is understandable but this is a nationwide event in history that I think an a US citizen (whether you are happy about it or not) should be watched to honor and support the president of The United States of America (no matter who it is) And pay respect to the country we are privileged to live in. We watched the last 2 presidential inaugurations in school.

Actually, I did serve in the military. Yes, I’m familiar with the portraits in various HQ buildings. Frankly, I never cared for the parade of portraits, because it always reminded me of the Communists.
I have never been to a school where the President’s portrait was displayed. That included both public and parochial schools. Maybe that is why I found the portraits in military buildings unsettling. Because it’s the norm in the military doesn’t mean that it should be in the schools. At least in the military, it’s showing the chain of command. In a school, there is no chain of command leading up to the President.
Just my opinion. If it were up to me, we would also not be building monuments to various politicians and naming everything in sight after them. Especially when they are still alive.
YMMV.
I don't remember this "requirement" when Reagan or Bush was elected.
Things gotta change, maybe local school boards can be used.
“HB 2120 would give Arizonas attorney general absolute power to withhold up to 10 percent of state aid if he or she determines a college or university is in violation of the law.”
Should be 100%.
Agreed. But it’s a badly needed start.
A true contradiction in terms.
Some of those school boards are the worst. Often just as leftist even in Conservative GOP areas.
It’s happening right here in Texas too. In conservative Collin County even!
He’s a looney!
Thats the kind of crap that lefties pull. Go to China or North Korea and youll see portraits of their leader everywhere.
I think this is the problem, you confuse respect for worship. We have presidents on our currency and carved into mountains. Should that be removed too? It's a respect thing. Get over it.
Btw, no one is suggesting Nazi or North Korean style massive parades with people carrying Trump portraits. So you can rest easy! ☺
Yeah it’s time to start focusing on those cause they are elected right? We gotta prioritize those elections, there is no reason we shouldn’t win them in GOP areas.
Weird thing Dr Looney was a marine
The few conservatives out here have tried to oust him forever
They don’t have the votes on the 12 member board
Looney is bureaucrat left
When my children went to school everything of interest was shown to them..
I still remember my 6 yo daughter coming home to tell me that they saw the shuttle blow up...
In those days it was a big thing for the kids to have their own in school election ...for every president...
then they got to watch the inauguration...
a lot of this is about denying the children of today USA history and civics...WWI was started because OF the threat to nationalism...we just sit back and wait to be asked “what size burka ???”
Still they did get to sing the MMMMM song...
Oh but Obama was king-for-life and walked on water ...
a hero of the 1st water...
so perfected in his abilities that they knew they could safely give him a Peace Prize and he would perform later...
well much later...well he will...
Meanwhile the most important man in their country, and the Free World, our new leader, is not to be acknowledged by the ones who teach them history and social studies and current events ???
What is considered educational if the occasion of the swearing in ceremony for their incoming president of the United States is to be blocked of as though it were a pornographic or violent episode ???
These so called “educators” are not fit or qualified to teach American children...
This doesn’t sound like the Tennessee schools I knew....
...it doesn’t even sound like Tennessee”
Lol.. agreed. How about we separate federal dollars from them if they showed Obamas inaugural! I wonder if they did, because that would be simply partisan.
No; pitchforks and torches (since schools are a GUN-FREE zone)
DEFINITELY!
No!
Take back the ones we PAID for!
I see you’ve found this!!
