Students at Independence High School in Williamson County, Tennessee, will not be allowed to watch President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration during class on Friday.
Senior Olivia Roberts was so surprised by the ban she decided to write a Facebook post that has since gone viral:
To preface this, I am not one to post or debate anything political on Facebook but wanted to hear thoughts on this:
I go to public school and we are not allowed to watch the inauguration tomorrow...
Teachers are banned to show it.
Teachers are also not allowed to discuss anything about politics or religions which is understandable but this is a nationwide event in history that I think an a US citizen (whether you are happy about it or not) should be watched to honor and support the president of The United States of America (no matter who it is) And pay respect to the country we are privileged to live in. We watched the last 2 presidential inaugurations in school.

Only when speaking of those educators that are blacking out the inaugural address. Ironically, the perc tests of the land there are really bad and sewage treatment is a problem if not done correctly.
IN TENNESSEE? Yes, I’m screaming.
I remember they told us to not let students watch the live TV of the world trade center attack.I popped in two 6 hr vhs tapes and in so many words told them to go fk themselves as my students, watched till dismissal.
Thanks for the info and the best of luck to your middle son!
If schools don’t allow watching of the Inauguration, children of conservatives should be kept home to watch history being made tomorrow. The loss of attendance money will be punishment enough, until the School Board members can be defeated.
I read up and wrote the school site
The principal is now parsing his way out that some classes will be watching after all
I think he effed up messing with the mom Mrs Roberts
Like most school boards ours is far more lib than the populace
Bump and thanks again!
Pubic school teachers are now effectively enemies within. I hold teachers personally responsible and accountable for America’s current state of ignorance, perversity and Godlessness. Their gods are humanism, the NEA, wanton sex and Marxist-socialism. F teachers.
Lefties, start sucking your binkies!
If the schools had prevented all inaugurations from being seen, I could see that as a way to keep the students focused on their schoolwork and keep teachers from trying to take a de facto day off. With allowing the Obama inaugurations to be seen in class, but not the Trump inauguration, the schools are clearly making a political statement. Public schools are nothing more than Liberal indoctrination centers.
I wonder if something else is going on like it did not show Obama's inauguration in 2008.
The situation in Davidson County (Nashville) just north of Williamson County is very different. This is one of only two counties in the state that went for Hillary. The meltdown in Nashville schools after Nov 8 was something to behold.
My son is in a magnet high school there and I have concluded that the best we can hope for is that they simply do not show the inauguration. More likely is some sort of attempt to lead (force) the students to protest. I have instructed my son in the principles of passive resistance and taught him the example of the Nashville sit-ins in the early 1960s.
We shall overcome this Bull Conner-Democrat tyranny!
situation may be more complicated than the original story, at least if press releases of Williamson and Davidson Cunty are to be believed: http://www.newschannel5.com/news/parents-want-inauguration-shown-in-classrooms
I also went to Catholic schools....never missed an election celebration that I can remember. (started with Truman). This is history in the making and to participate is to be a lifelong memory. I was into this at a VERY early age and I loved politics a lot. I now have a grandson, in college, who is also a follower. He has interned for our state rep. and was pictured at one time, immediately behind governor Pence....pretty impressive!!!!!
That’s right
He is Donald John Trump (not Donald E.).
Ping, suburb of Nashville I think, I assume it’s a GOP area. Parents need to take over.
Yes, you are right. Not sure why I put an E. in there, because I was pretty sure it was J for John.
Cut all funding. Give it to parents in the form of vouchers.
Yes, but just because an area is Republican doesn’t mean the teachers and administrators are. I’d say very few are... anywhere.
