Twitter Says It Would Consider Banning Donald Trump's Account
SFIST ^ | 30 Nov 2016

The president-elect of the United States is a notorious troll — a fact which his promise to ban Muslims from entering the country, threat to imprison and strip Americans of citizenship for exercising their First Amendment rights, and widespread insulting of people online all make clear. We now learn via Slate that the two technology platforms Donald Trump uses most prominently to spread his messages of hate and division, Twitter and Facebook, take a very different stance on how to respond to future instances of harassment by Trump. Namely, Twitter says it would consider suspending his account. Facebook, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg (mostly) denies contributed to Trump's victory by means of spreading fake news, not so much. The publication reached out to Twitter directly and inquired whether top government officials could ever lose access to their accounts for violating the site's rules. “The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies,” a spokesperson responded. When asked if those standards apply to Trump, who The Guardian reports will soon be given the handle @POTUS, the spokesperson replied in the affirmative. “The Twitter Rules apply to all accounts, including verified accounts.” Twitter has previously banned so-called "alt-right" a.k.a. white supremacist trolls. That the future president of this country could fall into that category reflects a sad state of affairs. And yet, according the company, Twitter Rules are Twitter Rules. If Trump violates them, his account could be sanctioned in some form or another. Facebook, for its part, says it has a slightly more nuanced view of things.

[It would be a lot easier to have a family member BUY Twitter.]

It would be better to run TWITTER out of business. Who wants to give a flaming liberal startup $$$$$ for something new?

It would be a lot easier to have a family member BUY Twitter. They are having trouble finding a buyer.

Such a decision would send http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TWTR on a slide down to zero. And if they cut him off on Twitter then we could always invite the President-Elect to post his thoughts here whenever he wants :)

Opportunity knocks for some one to launch a Trump friendly alternative to twitter.

Twitter didn’t say anything but reiterate its rules. It’s whoever this person is that asked Twitter the question that raised the possibility of banning Trump.

Omg. They have truly shown their hand. While I wish he’d stop using twitter sometimes , banning?

What he says is rated G compared to what goes on in Twitter land.
The Alt-Left is angry that they can not manipulate us through the MSM. Knowing conservatives are going or have gone elsewhere for their news, they are in a full out assault to destroy that too.

“Trumps... threat to imprison and strip Americans of citizenship for exercising their First Amendment rights”

Leftists can exercise their first amendment rights but Trump can’t.

I hope they do.

I have been programming a version myself.

Having Trump would make it an instant success.

FreeRepublic should add this ‘tweet’ feature and offer Trump a free account.

twitter, google, amazon, facebook, microsoft, ebay...all need serious anti-trust and RICO investigations, also SEC and shareholder lawsuits if they’re gonna waste/mis-appropriarte shareholder assets trying to intefer with our American political process or impose some sort of dictatorship in our country
(overseas activities are also involved)

Have never had a Twitter or Facebook account, so I wouldn’t have to cancel them if they did ban Trump’s Twitter account. That said, I don’t think they realize how many people would cancel their accounts if they did pull this crap.

“Sounds like more FAKE NEWS”

That’s exactly what this is. Sensational headline to make it sound like Twitter is waiting anxiously to pull the trigger on banning Trump’s account. If they even asked Twitter they probably got a non-answer to the effect that they would hold Trump to the same low standards they hold anybody else to. Blogsationalist twist this to make it sound like Twitter is at the ready to do it.
